Default oil pressure (or complete lack of...)

Yesterday, while on the dyno testing a new cam/intake setup, a puddle of oil appeared under the front main seal. Now I have no oil pressure whatsoever.... Has anyone ever had "spontaneous" oil pump failure? I would like to think it is hopefully something simple like a plugged pickup or sending unit, but the external oil leak and complete lack of pressure have me fearing the worst If anyone has a thought on the subject, or has had a similar experience please let me know. Thanks in advance....

You could just have a bad leak, a lot of people will blame a bad pump or an old pump on low oil pressure when actually the main bearings are the main things to look in to. So if all your oil is spilling out of your main seal, you might have no pressure because of the leak.

3.5 hours from start to finish. Not as bad as I was afraid it would be though. The pump must have siezed/exploded as the housing is cracked and the flats on the crank destroyed the lobes on the pump gear. Had to change oil pans because of all the metal shavings. There was no oil in the filter however, so hopefully none of it got pumped into the engine....
