Carbon Fiber Hood Damage!
I have a carbon fiber hood for my 95 Integra, don't know exactly what brand. The underside of the hood has been stripped of the metal heat shield, thus making it alot lighter. The damage is as follows...

See the white haze on the hood, it's alot worse up close, there's a lot of scratches.
I was just wondering what I can do to fix this problem myself. Last resort is buying a new one...

you can wet sand and buff the hood to remove the haze.constant waxing will help keep it away.
best thing to do is to sand out the haze, then get it clearcoated so you don't have to worry about it any more, other than maintaining it like the rest of your paint.

what will i need to wet sand (type of paper?) and when do i know to have it clear coated? meaning: how much sanding will it take, just to take out the haze, meaning i'll be able to see the carbon fiber clear? thanks for the help guys!
The best bet is to take it to a body shop and have them prep and paint it.
To do it yourself you need 400 grit, 600 grit and maybe 1000 grit. Then clear it. It sounds like you have never done any painting so I would just trust a body shop. Odds are there is not currently any clear on it. Just a clear resin. You might be ok to just scuff the hood and then clean it very well. The clear should fill in any cracks and make it look smooth again.

i won't use the 400 grit or the 600 grit . This will leave lines on the hood and the clear coat will not fill it up.. The best way is to use 1200 or higher sand paper to sand it and spray water on the hood and on the sand paper and start sanding but always keep them both wet..
o yea that's another thing.... it only got like this after i tried to polish it with carnuba wax on a rotating buffer.... could i still sand it down?
You have to wett sand it with like 700 grid sanding paper and a bucket of water. After you do that, take it to your local paint shop and have them lay some clear coats on it. Once they do that, color sand and buff it again with like 1000 grid and buff it out with a buffer and some buffing compound. Good luck!

Exactly.
You guys should see what 800 grit, water, 3m rubbing compound, and a buffer does to some spray can primer. lol.

If the gelcoat is discolored, I highly doubt that reclearing it is gonna help. You can still try though. Sand it with 800-1000 grit wet sand paper.
sick man i'm from maui too, just live in oahu now for school... did you drag your teg this year? if so how was it? your teg's sweet man! are you daryl honda?
easy fix actually. if its the same crap i had on mine...my friend took some 3M rubbing compound, i think it was 2000grit and used it with a buffer. clean up really nice in most spots but others were stubborn, so we tried 500 grit compound, then went back over with the 2000grit, looks brand new now! when you use the buffer use a slow speed, no higher then 3500rpms. mist the hood down with water before you use the compund, then after you buff the first time spray the hood off with the hose and then wipe it dry, just keep repeating till it looks new. hope this helps
dont paint your hood....have a body shop tech look at it and decide--i just got a carbon fiber hood for my crx for free..it had many deep scratches from broken glass-i personally thought that it couldnt be fixed but the body man sanded it and put 4 1/2 coats of clear on it and now it looks better than new! im glad i had it re-cleared-----now my friends getting his celica cf hood done-it looks like yours, just not quite as bad
