Need help 91 honda accord is a mess
Alright Hello everyone I'm new here so please don't use big car terminology k?
Anyway I just got my license and my parents decided to give me the old 91 honda accord. (and they get a new car with a body kit and aluminum rims. ) anyway....
the probs....
First prob is that the acceleration is screwed. when accelerating the car shakes when between 1 and 2.5 thousand rpm. Then the needle jumps to 3000 after a couple seconds.
Next when stoped or backing up, the car shakes. (I know that one of the motor mounts in the back is snapped or something so i'm getting that fixed.)
Next I hear a ticking sound when the engine is shut off.
Now for the fun part, what mods should I get. Keep in mind that I am only in high school and my parents will not pay for anything except maybe a catback exhaust.

well since you have a few problems, you better fix them b4 you decide you wanna mod something. whats the point of moding & car that has the jitters
what trans do you have, how many miles, did your parents own this before or buy it for you...first prob kinda sounds like a fuel prob...not for sure unless i am there...i own a 92 accord 5 speed...i might be able to help.
If you want some help, you need to give us a bit more information. Is the shaking occurring when you engage the clutch or after it is already engaged?
Describe the ticking sound. Does it sound like the engine is still running after it's shut off?
Your tach should operate smoothly as you shift gears. It shouldn't be jumping from one number to another.
If one of your motormounts is broken, don't waste much time getting that fixed. that could be a major cause of the shaking problem right there.
Good luck.

with the car at 197k miles, I would not put any mods (and $$) on the car. you may be lucky to get maybe another 30 k miles on the car. I would worry more about maintaining it trying to get as much miles out of the car as one can. Maintenance like oil change, spark plugs, brakes, filters, timing belts, etc and let alone the 'cool' or 'neat' mods. it will get you from point a to b while you are in HS which would be great as it will give you somewhat freedom. I would suggest you to keep it simple, drive it around and taking it easy. (a car with that many miles can't take much abuses.) If taken good care of the car, you will be surprised how much long it would last. FYI - I have seen too many cars in junk yards that had all the 'cool' (and $$) mods...sitting in junky piles. it is just a 2 cents of mine. Having an old car is the best way to learn how to work with cars so if you want to learn how to work with a car, your car would be perfect.
alright so it ended up being a cracked distrubutor cable. the car is in perfect condition now. I just want so minor mods like cold air intake. I'm also thinking about doing an engine swap. My friend says that his dad can do it for free. I just need to buy the engine. And what engine do I have now. Is it the b12b?

just my opinion - leave your engine as is since you said it is perfect now.
my son has 89 accord with 220k miles - no mods and pretty all orignal parts - and he traveled to Chicago, Illnois, Upstate NY with that car and is planning to go to Minn. this weekend (we live in MD). Honda can give you damn good cars if taken care of. it sounds like that your car is a damn good car and leave it as is till it is broken. My son just did the routine maintenance and he is an expert on it (he is only 18 years old.) He just called me "Dad, I am going to Minn. this weekend and don't worry I will have all the tools in the trunk." How about that?

man your in hs and you have a car what more do you want when i was in hs the combined value of my first 2 cars was 550 bucks
if i were you i would just try to keep the car running i would say the engine swap would be out of the question unless you have about 2500 burning a hole in you pocket because the only engine worth swapping into a accord is the h22 prelude motor. ive never done but ive heard getting the vtec to work can be a pain in the ***
