RSX-S Oil filter change mess... sick of it.
Every time I pull the oil filter from the RSX it spills oil all over creation. My workaround for this is to place a plastic bag under the thing when I pull it, but that's not fool-proof (bag + hole = mess). I'm thinking of relocation the filter to make this less of a PITA. Anyone done this yet?
Why don't you spray the area with brake cleaner after you are done and wipe the rest with a rag. the brake cleaner breaks down the oil and it evaporates quickley.
get one of those funnels with a flexible hose on it, they only cost a couple bucks at any autoparts store. cut a u-shaped section out of it so you basically have half a funnel but with the hose still attached. break the filter loose, then put the half-funnel underneath it to catch the mess as you remove the filter (with the hose leading to a drain pan underneath of course).

Well, the issue is to make it so there is nothing to clean up. Besides, cleaning the garage floor is easy... cleaning the different suspension and frame parts it drips on is harder.

That's a damn good suggestion... I'll give that a shot and post back here how well it works.

What we do at Acura is place a junk towel/cloth on the subframe directly underneath the filter. This way all you have to wipe down is the CV joint + boot. This obviously works alot better if you've got a hoist, but will still do the job on the ground.

Yeah, great idea. Because the shop gives two ***** about dripping oil on your car, but I'm guessing you've never been underneath it, so you wouldn't know.

1: the CV boot throws it all over the underside of your car.
2: dirt combines with the oil to leave a wonderful looking sludge under your car. It's fun to clean AND looks yummy
