so i attempted to reset my maintainence light and...
ok, maintainence light has been resetted. now i gotta new problem after i held the button and turned the key to ignition. my car will randomly shut off all power every once a while when the car isn't running and then come back on after 3-4 minutes or so. weird stuff, and i cant think of what's wrong. anyone know what's going on? thanks
old stuff below:
today, i decided to reset my maintainence light. i turned off the engine, held the maintainence button down and turned the key 2 clicks ( to ignition), and all my lights, dash lights, radio.. everything just turned off. i thought i blew all my fuses in my car
. after 3 minutes of prancing around, i openned the trunk and what do you know, the trunk light was on. i went back to start the car and it started like normal. the radio was resetted, but that was it. mysteriously, my CEL went off along with this procedure.
so is this an alternate way to reset the CEL light? i know for sure i screwed up on resetting the maintainence light b/c its still there, but has anyone tried this to reset the CEL. i don't know if i damaged anything doing this.

the maintainence light is cake, just turn the car to on, push and hold the button for a little bit right away, and it should go away.

You just confused me. First you said your maintenance light was on, but after your car finally started, your CEL went off. Was your CEL on to begin with? You can only reset the CEL by resetting the ecu, disconnecting the battery, or using an OBD1/2 code checker. The maintenance light (to my knowledge) can only be reset by using the reset button under the dash.
Just in case you didn't know: the maintenance light and CEL are 2 totally different things.

my cel and maintainence light was on to begin with. when everything shut down, i am guessing it also stop current flow to the ECU as well which resetted the CEL. however, this attempt was not to reset the CEL, but the maintainence light.

I think you've unlocked a secret! Go dyno your car and see how much whp you've gained
I kid, i kid. But in seriousness, if this turned out to be true it would be a good find.

exactly like they said:
1: turn car on and let it idle
2: press and hold button until light goes off (I'd say around 10 secs or so)
3: turn car off and head to fridge to grab a beer then head directly to the nearest lazyboy.
then your done good luck with it next time
