VIS Rear Hatch?>?
I'm thinking about getting a VIS or other brand(anyone know of any) Carbon Fiber hatch. I was wondering if anyone has put one on their car and how difficult it was to install??? A buddy of mine said it will be more getting the window in than the actual cost of the hatch.
Anyone info/adive/tips would be great.
THanks

Yes I do have a friend that did do the carbon fiber hatch for his teg. Easy install but he got the plastic replacement glass to put in instead of the actual glass. Me personally I would advise against putting it on your car. Too expensive and doesn't really do a whole lot except for looks. And yes it would be very difficult to get actual glass mounted into suck a light weight body material that really has no strength to it. It's kinda why you almost have to go with the replacement plastic crap. your choice.

the main reason those were made was for weight reduction (eg racing), not for looks. function over form. of course, over time people thought they CF looked cool and decided to put them on their street cars

I want one, I would be more worried about the body line fitment more than anything. With the glass or lexan window whatever you decide to choose all you do is glue they window to the body panel. Now all you will need is a carbon fiber body kit and hood and doors... and car
On a serious note, you could paint over the hatch lid later on down the road if you dont want the CF look

Last time I checked, carbon fiber had a higher tensile strength than steel; standard grade CF has a tensile strength of 3.5GPa, while high tensile steel is only 1.3GPa.
I don't see how there'd be any problem mounting the regular glass to this. I am curious, however, what the actual weight savings would be when using the regular glass.
