Default Did i burn my exhaust valves?

I had heard that running open header would possibly burn ur exhaust valves... on my old hatchback i had a really restrictive exhaust after my cat. the backpressure would blow the exhaust off... it had it repaired 3 times then just said **** it and ran an open header... lol, cops didnt like that.

neway i took the head off today. is this typical or are these "burnt valves?"

Just look like they saw some heat.........My stock exhaust valves had the same color when I took them out and I had an exhaust system on a relatively stock engine..............

Looks ok from the pic..Put spark plugs in it, flip it combustion chamber side up and pour rubbing alcohol and fill the chamber(where the valves are) now look into each port with a light and see if any of the the alcohol leaks by the valves.. This will tell you alot..if it does you have a bent valve, bad seat, burnt valve, or crappy valve job..

You can do that the other way too with water, just pour a little in each port and see if it leaks out of the valve that way.

They are the brownish white color because the fuel doesnt get to splash on the exaust vavles like it does on the intakes to cool them down.

EDIT: lol oops, didnt know whati was thinking when i was searching and brought something back from the dead.

exhaust valves glow when your driving the **** out the car. especially FI. all the exhaust is passing by them, and not the intake valves because why would it go towards them when the opening is on the other side to escape
