so I got in the CRX yesterday, pushed in the clutch and SNAP!
WTF MAN!
So I guess I either snapped the cable completely or most of the strands broke and allowed the remaining ones to stretch horribly.
What do you think? I cant pull the end of it out so I do not think it has completely broken but it definitely is slack as hell now.
This sucks, I was on my way to do important things!
Although the car is 15 years old, so I understand when something breaks here or there...

how's the clutch pedal? check to make sure that the bracket is ok.
happened to me, but the "snap" was the braket and not the cable.

when my bracket went out on me, it actually gave out slowly. It juts kept bending and bending and after about 10 minutes, it just broke. I had the new bracket reinforced like a mo fo.

yeah, mine was creaking for a bit then "snap". getto-rigged a c-clamp to hold it together ... hehehe didn't feel like dropping the dash at the time.
you don't need to drop the dash to swap out the cable.
its really easy... it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes...

sorry for the hijack ... so crown14, was it the cable?
manson ... it was the pedal bracket that snapped for me.

Unless you have the Hasport Hydro kit, it's a bitch to replace it then.

could be just that plastic thingy that you use to tighten/loosen cable that's attached to the tranny.

It must be a yellow CRX.
The curse of the yellow lives on!!!

You don't need to drop teh dash to replace the pedal assembly either, just the steering column. Similar thing happened to me but the arm the cable attaches to on the tranny side seized up and my pedal wouldn't go anywhere.
Nah man this CRX is red! Mostly red at least...
Well I just pulled the cable out and its definitely not broken into two peices, but anyone who knows what this type of cable looks like should remember its made up of many strands- I think there are probably a couple of these still holding together (instead of breaking they actually stretched)... well thats the theory anyhow. I have seen this happen before on many different cars but not on mine!
I can still grab the clutch fork and pull up enough to push the fork/bearing assembly up the input shaft and the pressure plate feels fine... so hopefully its just the cable. Of course Ill take the old one to the store when I buy the new one to compare- a lesson we all should have learned by now.
