I called a mechanic about installing my springs...
And he pretty much told me my car would ride like **** because i have stock struts. I told him that i had tokico illuminas on the rear, and he said the front would ride like ****. Can someone clarify this for me? I have eibach sportlines and i drive a 95 gsr on stock front shocks and tokico illuminas in the back (car came like that when i bought it). Thanks!!
it's not that bad, just depends on how worn out your stock shocks are. just buy front shocks when you get the funds..
i'm on a REALLY tight budget, i barely had enough money for srpings let alone installation, it'll take me a long time to get enough money for shocks, espcially illuminas. my front shocks have about 104k on them, do you think i should just go ahead and install or should i wait?
i think you'll be fine, i have neuspeed race springs on stock struts and i love the ride. my wife has eibach springs and stock struts on her CL and it rides fine. sure a better strut will give you a nicer ride, but the spring your useing isnt that low so i dont really see an issue. it almost sounds like your mechanic just doesnt want to put the srings on and is making excuses.
the mechanic i called was just some random guy out of the phone book. I didn't call my mechanic because he told me to lay off modding my car for a little bit, because i've been modding like crazy lately. I'll give him a call tomorrow, it's alright if i put the springs on, but change the shocks later right?

yea, like i said you not going that low so its not like you gona blow out your shocks as soon as you hit the highway. the only downfall to to putting struts on later is that you'll have to take the springs and struts back apart to do that, then thats just more money out of your pocket, doing the struts know will kill 2 birds with one stone(assumeing you dont like birds).

yeah i see what you're saying. I'll talk it over with my mechanic, (he's a friend of mine and often does work on my car for free) and i'll get his opinion in it. Thanks a lot for the help

You could save yourself a lot of money by installing the springs yourself. With the money saved, you could probably get a set of front struts. Modding your car isn't really that fun, if you have someone else do all the work.
There's a good article on http://team-integra.net that shows how to replace your springs and shocks.

i agree with timmy...have a friend help you out. if you're on a tight budget like you claim, then doing mods yourself is the best solution. there are write-ups on any topic imaginable
you'll be fine, you can put in shocks later. Only downside is you are doing the spring installations work TWICE. I drove on that exact setup for a good 1-2 years before I got shocks.

Yes, do the work yourself that way you save your money and you learn more about your car.

be CAREFUL on the rear strut bolts, they're only 14mm and they snap like it's going outta style, that's the only good thing about having a shop do it they can use their impact gun.
nothing sucks more ***** than a siezed bolt with a busted off head,

Do everything right the first time, purchase it all and then install all your parts at once like stated above. Im pretty sure you can find someone around your area who is willing to help or someone on this board who is local. BTW when everythings said and done, there might still be an allignment necessary

well said, that is a headache you simply do not want (been there done that)
as for the struts stock ones are fine, you'll already know if they need replacing, if u think they do then go ahead and get some good aftermarket ones

ya i've been there before too, it really really sucks
stock struts are fine, the mechanic's just a deuch-bag trying to sell you more parts,
i have a 2" drop in my g2 sedan, stock shocks and 2 of em are blown, it still rides "ok", also don't worry about a camber kit, i have none and ran 17's all summer long and they are showing absolutely no signs of uneven wear,
basically buy the springs, install em, and get an alignment(optional), don't listen to anyone who says you need a camber kit or aftermarket shocks for a 2" drop, they're full of it
btw - if it were me i would install the front 2 myself, becuase they have 17mm bolts which don't break usually, the rears have only 14mm bolts, and if you don't have an impact gun I would just bring it to a shop and have em do it, if you want to do it yourself I wouldn't use anything bigger than an 8" or 10" breaker bar, back when i did mine I used a big 24" breaker bar and snapped that bolt like a twig.
i couldn't get the bolt out and it eventually tore a hole riht through my trailing arm, if i my roommate didn't happe to own a portable mig welder i would've had to buy a complete trailing arm assembly, couple hundred bucks, and install it which is a huge pain in the *** job.

I'm on sportlines with stock shocks, have been for almost a year now. The ride quality has slightly worsened, but none of my shocks have blown, and they all have (gasp) 191,000 miles on them.
the ride won't be that shitty at all since you have the back shocks. compared to having coilovers (i'm not talking about gc's or skunk2's) and stock shocks. your car rides way better with spings on stock shocks. just save up and get the front shocks later and you wont have to worry anymore
