Default Just bought an 88 HF CRX.... questions

Done some searching and came up with answers to most of my question sbut here's what's left...

It's only got 80k miles on it... runs like a champ... i'm putting a dual cam zc in it this spring but until then i want a little pick me up.... a junk yard turbo was the route i was going with a vtec head but then i got to thinking.... why waste all this money on this motor if i'm ditching it in spring? i've got a wet nos kit sitting around i was going to use with the zc swap so why not just spray the oh-so-efficient and reliable hf motor??

so... IF i spray this motor... what size shot could i get away with before i toast something.... 35? 50? or is the HF motor going to greneade if i spray it?

my other question(s) was referring to the zc dual cam swap... aside from some wiring, hubs, axles, and tranny... what else will i need?

TIA

Erik

woha woha woha buddy. just cause you have a honda dont mean you can swap motors for the hell of it. Well, Technicly u CAN! but why? whats wrong with it? is it to slow? hondas are ment for RELIBILITY. why swap a perfectly running motor with a ZC? keep driving it the way it is. Im not saying ZC's are bad. Im just saying, you JUST bought the car. and now you wana swap motors? Ide keep it till the motor has problems, THEN swap motor.

oh, I dont know what shot to use.

well my daily driver is my jeep. i bought this to drive when the jeep was done for repairs or upgrades.

i got it cheap, really cheap... the gas mileage is great but that's not really a concern so long as i can keep it at 20+ (jeep only gets 8-10... sucks horribly).

anyway, for under a thousand bucks i'll have a hf crx with a dual cam zc swap when everything is said and done.... for now, i'm just tryingt o have some fun. the motor isn't worth anything so if i burn some rings or break off a ring land it won't be the worst thing to ever happen to me... it'll just be the car's way of saying "time for the swap"

i'm no newbie to hondas, i've just never really dealt with any motors other than b and h series... and my ol' 79 civic 1200 but that's all in the past now. this new stuff is all spanish to me thus far.

sorry, i forgot to answer your question of why i'm swapping...

dual cam zc's are cheap and easy to get parts for....
my plans are to spray a 75 or 100 shot direct port on it until it blows, rebuild it, and repeat that until i get sick of it and sell it....

so long as i stay off the juice it will be just as reliable as it was the day i bought it or as any 1st gen integra.....

shitty plan but it's my beater and i just bought it to have fun in .... give me something that can go over 50MPH.... and is worthy of being on the highway.

you dont need hubs or axles if you si crx tranny the hf ones work
thats all you really need for the swap tho

man i miss my hf motor

when you do the zc swap would you want to be quick from a stop or fast as **** on the interstates and highways?

hmmm, so i can swap int he dual cam zc with an si tranny and not need to change anything else? so then it wouldn't matter which axles i used would it? i thought the hf had a lower spline count than the si... but then again, i'm new to this whole honda generation.

as for how quick i want to be... i don't. i just want the daily driveable torque off the dual cam zc and then the occassional weekend fun runs, 1/8 mile or less..... i could really care less about top end... just wanna have some fun and call it quits by about 60mph.

i got into the whole honda money pit thing with my integra and i'm done with that... now i just want a fun beater to drive when i'm replacing wheel bearings or savin for new super swampers for the jeep.

awesome, thanks a lot... you just made this future swap much easier.

b series... hahaha... i wish... it's ust me beater though. i don't want to dump any money into it i don't have to. i'd rather put tha tinto my pile of ****. i mean my jeep. lil quick cars are fun (i've had my share) but something about riding around with over a foot of lift and big *** boggers just makes me smile more than saying a have a b series swap.

i wouldn't have said that two years ago, hahaha, but now i'm kinda taking the conservative side on that.

-Erik <---- who has a fully built turbo b16 sitting in the garage beggin for a new home... hopefully in someone elses garage, hahaha

i would think about doing an ls swap in the future if i stick with this car though..... something about beating the hell out of gsr's and h22 swapped hatches without any vtec has always made me smile. that would be in the far future though...

i just need a beater now... college is my first priority and if i lose track (which i do easily) i'll be up **** creek without a paddle.

100 shot direct port should be fine. Hondas are strong motors. I would 125 but then you might be pushing it for a stock motor....
