ND HELP! Speedo problem which is causing VTEC too NOT work

I have a 92 CX hatch w/ a B18C5 Type R motor.
I hooked up Vtec today, and could not get it to work for the life of me.
Anyhow, The speedometer wasnt working ..So I decided to replace the Speedo in reference to making Vtec possibly work. BINGO! Vtec now worked...however the problem Im having is
When driving ...spontaneously the speedo cuts off and on ..off and on. I turn the car and it seems to help when I crank it back over...it will work for a bit then occur the same problems which is causing Vtec not too work.
I scraped all the grounds in the engine bay and made sure there getting clear contact.
Changed the Gauge cluster and the Speedo Sensor on the tranny.
Im lost as to what it could be.
Any of you guys have this problem ever?
ANY help you provide will be MUCH appreciated
Thanks

I'd pull out the VSS and make sure that it's still in working order. Sounds to me like your VSS is either a defective unit (the intermittent failure is how VSSs go out), but since you said you replaced it then possibly your connector isnt seating good. I'd be more than willing to bet the problem lies within your VSS or the wiring around it.

i never heard replacing the speedometer makes vtec work again. is this true? i thought either u wired it wrong or not ground correctly.

Well, I changed the speedo sensor. I m having a hard time believing that the two speedo sensors I put in were both bad? The plug is seated good.
Wiring problems like these are the most frustrating cause I know its something so simple but so hard to pin point the problem

wassup man...have you checked if your speedometers have a bulb in the check engine slot? i hear that if the check engine light is on, the car runs in safe mode which dissabled vtec from engaging. we were having a similar problem in my friends gs-r hatch, it kept throwing a code for the vtec solenoid and every time we turned off the car, it would clear and vtec would work, but only for a short while...it got progressively worse. we thought the vtec solenoid was going bad, but the problem got fixed when he rewired vtec entirely, i guess it was just a bad connection. i would suggest you run a continuity test through your wire, solenoid and vtec oil pressure switch, before you start going nuts. u can find the correct ohm readouts in a acura manual. i hope this can be of some help.

yah, it "was" missing a check engine light bulb..which I fixed and replaced. I have no check engine light. Just the speedo problem ..which is causing Vtec to spontaneously not work when the speedo acts up
thanks for your help ..I really appreciate it

I'm 99.99% sure i know whats wrong with your car....
I had the exact same ****. The plug on your harness that connects to the VSS, the 3 prong one. One of the Contacts is bent out of shape and or rusted/corrode and its making intermittent connection. It caused my car to throw the dreaded code 20 also.
I replaced everything from the VSS to the underhood fuse box....its a bad connection to the VSS, I'm Positive. What you can do is back probe A26 and B10 (if i remember correctly, i check helms later) with a Multimeter. While your driving, you should have a consistent 5V or so. If its erratic, its a bad connection.
It seems like you have the exact same problem as I did.
To fix this all I did was crush the bad pin connector on the harness side a bit and it made perfect contact. If it ever starts acting up again, I'll re-pin it, but for now its fine.

i had a smilar problem as well. i swaped my old vss on and it worked till i went WOT and it would go nuts and stop working.
checked the plug on the vss on the engine harness and the middle pin was broke half of the pin was missing so i cut my old vss clip off my old harness and solder it on problem solved.
you had to run vtec wires for ur motor?
did you use the stock harness or something i didnt have to run any wires when i did my swap on my 92 cx

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After hours of messing with it. In the process of it ..I changed the VSS..and finally thought after to check the plug. The middle prong was corroded with green crap. I sprayed some wd-40 in it..and wire brushed it and BINGO!!! it fixed everything.
Dang...now i check my post after everything is fixed..and see you guys posted it
Oh well, thanks for help guys I REALLY appreciate it
