Default This may be dumb but: h22 question

Hi everyone, this is my first post tho I have been reading and reading and reading these forums for a month now. I think this question isn't in the search bc the answer may be so very obvious, but here goes.

I have a 96 Accord Ex w/ automatic tranny. I am saving for a swap (this may take a while, college student) but I know what you guys say about the h22 engine. I want one in my Accord but I am curious: when I swap this into my car, will all aftermarket performance parts have to be for the year of the Prelude engine I get? What parts have to be for an Accord and Prelude if I am to mod my engine, such as exhaust and headers (prelude, I know that much), Brembo brake kits, etc. Sorry for the dumb question, please be nice cuz I like this board.

to the best of my knowledge:
Exhaust - Accord
Intake - Accord
Headers - Prelude

anything else connected to the engine would prob be a prelude part

96 ex.. Is that a V6?

Would an H22 bolt in with minimal mods?

Why not build up on the V6?

Ex's are a trim level, it does not necessarily mean that he has a V6

if its a v6 theres only but so much he can do Im almost done with bolt on mods before I have to start custom mods which cost money! , if its the 4 banger either F series or the H22A4 theres plenty he can do to it

The H22 Header and Accord Exhaust equation is as followed:

H22 Header (Downpipe) + Custom welding + Accord Exhaust = Quiet Hybrid

Short and simple:

Anything that bolts directly to the H22 and all wiring needs to be prelude.

Anything else should be Accord including axles and all suspension.

Thanks for the tips. If it helps, I have a 4 cyl and I want to swap for the 5 spd and lesser miles, stock power gains. Anyone have a reputable site or dealer for such engines, so I can get shipping quotes?

you can use your old accord wiring harness. just have to add 3 wires. 2 for vtec and one for knowck sensor, and switch one pin on the harness at the ecu

They have to be integrated into the wire harness, it's not as simply as adding 3 wires.

For obd2 to obd1 you can't just plug and play like you are saying. Dizzy is wired different, resistor box is gone.... def. not as easy as you think using stock accord harness. Have you done the swap? If not, STFU.. Too many people on this site talking about how easy the swap is after either:

1. Taking it to a shop and watching for a couple of minutes while waiting for a ride home.

2. Watching/Listening to/Hearing about a 'buddy' who did the swap.

If you are talking about obd2-obd2, which I dunno why you would do, that is something else.

Thats what I'm saying. It's not as easy as adding three wires. That's why I'm surprised that someone with so many posts doesn't understand what I'm saying.

Basically what we are saying gimme_h22 is that the H22 swap isn't impossible, but it's not easy either. Please don't interpret it in the wrong way.

um
all acocrds have an egr
they also all ahve a resistor box
distributor was a direct plug in on the last several 4th gen installs with extensions needed for the 5th gen.
iab is 2 wires if you use it.
knock is one wire
then add one more ground and 2 wires.

its an easy swpa if you stay obd2.
if you go to obd1 its still not too hard but just requires relocation of distributor sensor wiring to use the prelude distributor.

I am not acutally doing the swap myself. I will have a mechanic do it , I am not that mechanically inclined. But I want to put the Greddy Evo 2 exhaust and stainless headers on my accord now. I was asking about compatibility with an h22 down the road. Als plan on AEM cai intake and bypass valve, MSD sci ignition, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and Blaster SS coil.

Oh, and I dont have a V6 just an inline four cylinder F22b1 VTEC. Any one that can help me, I appreciate it, seems like my question hasn't been given enough thought by the responses I see.

What parts can I buy for my F22 right now that I can keep and put on my H22? Someone said Intake and exhaust, thanks. What else is likely to fit both engine swaps because I'm hurtin for some power right now and it would be a great help to get a few mods you think will fit now and be able to transfer to the H22 later.

buy a 97+ preluide intake, you can get the ignition, and the exhaust, wait to get teh prelude header to fit hte prelude engine. an nitrous will work on either engine as well...

So get ACCORD ignition and exhaust (evo2)? Will it fit Prelude (also greddy) headers? It doesn't matter what intake I get since they are both compatible? Sorry, just making sure, I'm new.

there is no such thing as an "accord" msd ignition, its teh same ignition for any car that uses a distributor.
and the prelude header will fit the prelude engine, so i fyou get them before teh swap they will sit around til you get teh h22a in.

and the reason to get teh 97+ prelude intake is 3 icnh piping compared to 2.5 for an accord intake.
