The only thing you may find annoying is not being able to adjust the amperage with a foot petal. We have an old 300a Lincon buzbox here at work with on old Lincon hi-freq tig module and it works so so.

You have to ask yourself, "Do I want to make a welder, or make parts for the car?" These side projects can take away all your time from what you really want to do.

ur right kb58,it would be a bit much to go through all that for some charge pipes and exhaust.
can exhaust piping be arc welded?

Sure, small stick at low current.

I don't think you can weld anything thinner then 11 gauge sheet metal with stick. But if you try, then use 6014 rods, and set your welder to electrode positive or straight current, so the arc doesen't penetrate as it would if it was set to reverse.

good luck with stick and exhaust piping
