Default Mugen ITR intake Vs Mugen CTR Intake in EK?

Hi guys did a search but didn't return much info or specific info I wanted.

Just for references sake, my G/Fs car is a RHD EK4 with B16A2, that I get to circuit race.

Anyhow, from what I did find out from searching the forum is that the Mugen ITR intake fits into the EK no worries...... Please let me know if you know otherwise.

The other thing I really wanted to know is with regard to the actual filter between the ITR and CTR version..... the Cone/Pyramid looking filter in the ITR model and the K&N looking canister in the CTR one.

At face value... it would probably make #$#@ all difference.... but I like the style of the cone/pyramid ITR.

What are your thoughts on the two styles of filter?

Cheers and Beers,

Speedy!

The Mugen ITR intake will fit in an EK. However, it is a VERY tight fit. You may need to get an aftermarket low profile radiator fan and you may need to slightly move the coolant reservoir. I am not sure if the under hood layout is different between LHD and RHD cars. I am referring to a LHD car.

In regard to the filter, I believe the cone shaped filter in the ITR is the newer design and I have been told it is similar to an S2000 filter. Its also reusable. I don't know if one design is more effective than the other.

Hey thanks heaps for your reply.

One thing I did just quickly go into the garage to have a look is that on pics that I have seen while searching here on the install of the airbox is that A/C lines have been an issue with LHD cars over there in the states......

I looked and surprisingly the A/C lines are all confined to the other side of the engine bay.......

By the look of things you where right..... the only thing that I can see that would have potential to foul on is the Rad resviour or the fan.

So to your knowledge... the actual physical dimentions of both airboxes is the same, touch bigger or substantially bigger?

I have had BOTH Mugen intakes; the 98-spec DC2R version with the S2K conical filter won't come close to fitting in an EK.

The older-spec intake (made for 96-spec DC2R and EK) will fit, but on a LHD car, the AC line by the radiator will have to be bent out of the way of the airhorn.

No problem, glad to help. As far as physical dimensions, I think the ITR(98 spec w/ cone filter) would be a little larger from the looks of it compared to the CTR(K&N type filter).

I would definitely plan on getting a slimline fan, otherwise the intake will probably be pushing against the stock fan.

I know for a FACT that the Mugen ITR intake (98 spec w/ cone filter) WILL fit in an EK. I have only tried it with an aftermarket slimline radiator fan, but it will fit. The AC lines are not a problem, but they do prevent you from drilling/tapping a hole for a tiny support bracket. The bottom hose clamp support bracket(where the horn turns into the fender well) will bolt up to an EK just like it would an ITR. I doubt you even need the bracket because of the perfect fitment it can't move. It is a tight fit, and a bit of a pain to get in, but it will fit and work well

Word of Advice: BE PATIENT. It takes some massaging to get the infamous JDM bird bath down there. Pay attention to what you are pushing against, so you can keep it moving downward. Also be careful pushing on the intake, it feels a little brittle and would be horrible to break one considering the $$$ to get one.
