I gotta adjust the valves this weekend on my 98' HX. What should I replace while I am at it. Valve cover gasket etc.?

 

Thats a really good question. I need to adjust my vavles really bad too, but dont know how too. I got my trusty Delsol Manuel and my radio and 12 hours to play!!!
What should we replace while we are at it?

Then again, Titanium Valves and springs would be nice.........screw adjusting UPGRADE!!

 

you shouldnt need to replace anything unless your valve cover gasket is bad. all you need is a wrench, a screwdriver, and feeler guages.

I agree with this guy.... Just make sure you use HondaBond on your valve cover gasket before you put on your valve cover... Good Luck...

 

dont hondabond the whole gasket, just at the corners over the cam caps. 4 little dabs is all you need.

 

Also, make sure the contact area between the valve cover gasket and head are dry.

 

It may not be required, but a 98 civic may enjoy a new cam cover gasket and spark plugs seals. Also inspect the timing belt for any aging or loss of tension. And yes don't forget the dabs of Hondabond.

 

dude, I pulled my valve cover dozens of times on my d15b7, it had around 110k miles on it, and I never had to replace any gasket.

just rub some clean engine oil on the gaskets before putting it back on, it'll seal fine.

I did have to replace some of those washer/bolt hole gasket thingies that hold the valve cover on, cuz they were getting all worn out and were a bitch to remove.

 

Dude, Gaskets are cheap and made to be replaced .. it's easier to do it once

Nice. Thanks for the info. I think I'll try my luck at using the same gasket. I'm not going to have time to get to the Honda dealer before this weekend to get the gasket. Could I use Permatex instead of Hondabond or is Hondabond something different from silicone ?
