New style AEM Cam gears
After reading sackdz post in another thread, these new style cam gears look pretty good. It'll save me alot of money compared to the ones I was planning on getting:
Spoon/Skunk2/Toda. Does anyone have any experience with the new ones? What does everyone think about the Spoon/Skunk2/Toda ones?

I saw it from another thread myself. AEM says: "You spoke, we listened," and improved their desgin.

If you look at http://www.aempower.com/application/...plications.htm
it says the new application isn't available for B series yet, but the do have them for some other cars and for the new civics. I called nopi, but they sayd it was a new part and they don't have the prices for them yet..... just a matter of time........

Well AEM said they are available for us now, and the guy said retail was $124, which seems low, and 2 of the #'s he gave me for distributors were bad, so take it how you want it....
The new outer gear is better, but the bolts are still junk.
I have awesome bolts here. 1/4" hex head. Hardened steel.
80 cents each. Well worth it if you do a lot of cam timing changes. Trust me.

their new bolts are supposed to be normal instead of making us use a freak'n allen wrench...fwiw - you can pick up a socket-to-allenwrench coversion piece to use on your torque wrench from most parts stores for a few bucks...at least you can torque them down then.
Skunk 2 gears are cheap, very light and have 6 bolts so they wil not slip! The bolst that come with them are very decent and I have not had any problems with them. You might have the wrong allen wrench or a cheap one. They take standard, NOT metric. The size is 5/32" I believe.
i will be using crower's new adjustible cam gears next year. they come with 4 ARP locking adjusting bolts.......these gears look really good......
I've noticed that a lot of the cam gears are very similar. I personally would not get the AEM or any other one that has less than 4 bolts. I don't think they are many with less than 4 bolts. The only other one I can think of right now is STR. I would also go wit a company that has been making them for a while and not one that just now started making them like Crower and DC or Sheng's. I would give the new companies 1-2 yrs. to fix their bugs. The Skunk 2 used to be .5 deg off when they came out with theirs, since then they have fixed the problem. Being .5 deg off is not a big deal anyways since you are going to get them tuned to produce max power on the dyno anyways.

Unorthodox racing cam gears are the best.
The new bolts were made with all of the corners rounded off - wtf? If these hadn't come on the car already, I'd definately buy something else....My Unorthodox pulleys are great - hope their gears are too.
i've seen/installed aem, skunk 2, toda, and spoon. the toda by far are the best quality i've ever seen, spoon would be next. not because there "jdm" but becuse the timing marks are dead on!!! skunk 2 and aem are known for being slightly off. just my 2 cents.
