Ignition lock cylinder....help please!
Ok so the igition on the new hatch I got was kinda messed up, like i could take the key out while the car was running. Well all around the cylinder is buggered up, i have no idea why and neither does the previous owner. So I wanted to swap the cylinder out from my 89 and put it into the 90. Well it was a no go. I tried for a good hour. Now I can't get the one that came from the car to go back in. It was stuck in the #1 position for so damn long, and then I got it stuck in #2 position by accident. So at this point i decide to go and see if the 89 was a bitch to put back in, it wasn't went back in, in a matter of minutes. Well I fianlly got the cylinder from the 90 to kinda work. I can start and stop the car but its kinda a bitch to do, and I also can't get the cylinder to stay in the housing. It just keeps falling out. I'm at the point that I wish I never tried to **** with it. It got dark so I'm done for the night but I really need to get this fixed, as I still need to get this car inspected and all.
Is it possible to swap the entire ignition set up? If so, can I get a how to, my manual doest say anything about it. And it doesnt look that easy to do. Please someone help me!

Do u know the proper way to remove the lock cylinder? If u do, then im sure u bend back the part of the housing around the lock cylinder to hold the little pin again. U can swap the entire igintion lock cylinder, iginition switch, and the unit that holds it all. I think the enitre unit is screwed to the steering column with sheer bolts. They are bolts with no heads. U will have to dremel slots in the top in order to unscrew it. I swapped that stuff on an EK once, but i did it with the column out of the car.
Yes I do know the proper way to remove it. I got it out and into my 89 just fine. But my 90 is giving my problems. The manual says to remove it I need to turn it to the #1 position and push down the pin and pull it out, which worked just fine. And to put it back in, the manual says to place clyinder into housing in the 0 position, then turn it to the #1 postion and push down the pin and push in until it clicks. But I can't get it to go in all the way.

Make sure the electrical portion on the car still is in the same position as the lock cylinder you are installing. So if the lock cylinder is in the #1 pos., then make sure the elec. portion is also clicked into the #1 position. That may be your problem. Other than that, it should slide right in.

It was lined up. Like I said, I was able to turn the key and start the car and shut if off with a good bit of wiggling, but the cylinder wont stay it, it would keep falling out.
