Default Mugen ECU, whats so special about them?

Donīt want to sound like an idiot but did a search and found nothing that explains why the Mugen ECU is so expensive and if its worth it. Before some of you say go with Hondata, I canīt because there are no dynos here in Panama so it has to be a chip or ECU like Mugen.

Back to my first question, whats so special about the Mugen ECU?
Thanks
Jay

nothing.

99.999% of the "mugen" chips are rip offs that make you get 10 miles to the gallon and run extreamly rich.

you cant just get a chip that was made for high end built motor and expect it to work fine with your b16a with a header.

the best option would be to get your ECU tuned to your motor and a chip made for your motor (uberdata, chrome, etc)

Key here is "chips" versus original Mugen DC2 ECU programs. Most of those chips have been tweaked and are probably nothing like the original.

The Mugen N1 ecu was designed for the N1 race series which only allows minimal mods and only reprogramming of the OE ECU. It is my understanding that a lot of the emissions stuff is disabled as well tweaks made to the fuel, ignition maps, and rev limitor for the JDM ITR specs. It is "rumored" that the ECU has faster processor speeds too, but I have no way to confirm that. Most people bump fuel pressure to compensate the aggressive timing maps.

In this day and age, we have fairly reasonable stand-along pricing, so a pre-generated plug-& -play ECU non-optimized to your car seems like a compromize for the money. Then again, a stand-lone requires dyno time and other possible fees for partial throttle maps that are not needed with the Mugen.

coz its JDM haha!

Unless you have the same specs the mugen race cars have and running the same fuel...it wont do too much and you're just paying for the Mugen name brand. There is no such thing as a faster processor when it comes to our ECUs.

I can help you out if you're looking for a really good ecu that wont need so much tweaking (given you dont have a dyno available)...check my sig.

I also have one of these OBD2 Mugen Group N ECUs in my car and its a bitch to work with.
Yes again before you say why do i have it and not a HONDATA or whatever, Its came with my B18 engine swap into my civic. The engine is a fully rebuilt Group N JDM B18 but thats where it ends for me.
Ive tried emailing Mugen in Asaka / Japan - to no avail.
Im trying to find out what injectors you need, fuel pressure to the fuel rail? and any other things to make this stubburn ECU work.

If no help, i'll have to sell it off
help ...

I have a Mugen Chip in my PR3 ECU... The only thing I noticed is, No Rev limit, and o2 sensor was deleted... I had to go out and get an aftermarket spark cutoff.

Hondata.. Do they have a closed loop program which enables the car to have a smooth idle and cold startup ?

The Mugen ECU i have is getting better. Mind you the engine is still only under a few 1000km old since a full rebuild it has been lying unused in a crate for nearly 2 years. Maybe i was being harsh on the ECU and not realising the engine nnded a bit of time to be broken in again ?

could be remember obd 2 is smart and learns and has adaptive fuel strategy's

give it some time<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by LSVTEC 91 Civic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I have a Mugen Chip in my PR3 ECU... NO SUCH THING AS A MUGEN CHIP

there cre copies that is all geeze

I liek when people clown on a reputable racing team/ parts makers products when they arwe not using it in the correct application or the too much money this and too much that.

if you cant afford it too bad use somehting else. If you can afford it put it to proper use in the correct application

Mr mugen CTR i think with enough fiddling and run time on the car you will get it dialed in right just do systematic diagnosis and see whats going on with the engine.

Make sure everyhting else is mechanically sound before you blame other things

Just my advice take it for what it's worth

Yup..It does..And in the later versions you can even alter the target voltage for the O2
