Default Mugen hart top

I wonder how much weight difference there is between mugen CF and FRP hard top. Worth to spend 2k+ more for the carbon?

S2ki.com is down right now but if I remember correctly the weights are approximately 44 pounds for the FRP and 26 pounds for the CF.

They weight should even out if you get a light weight exhaust, because the stock exhaust weighs about 50 sumthin pounds.

It's not just the weight....the Mugen hardtop will allow for better aerodynamics and better tops speeds at most tracks.

well the mugen hard top is a little longer then the oem one... it flares out onto the part before the trunk, unlike the oem one which stays where the soft top is..

I think the CF one is about 3-5 lbs lighter but the quality will make the biggest difference. If you want quality then Mugens CF is the nicest you can get.

anyone got a pic of a s2000 with mugen hardtop?
This forum is very tempting... i might just get a shell and build one if i can find one. but that is a future project for i am in the middle of building my itr. but that would be sweetness for a s2000.

It's much lighter than that. The weights above are pretty dead on. But don't forget mounting hardware on weight + budget. And fiberglass nor cf come painted. That will be up to you to decide what you want to do.

Keep in mind, the reason the CF hardtop is $5K, is due to the strength and build quality of the hardtop itself. It isn't your run of the mill VIS type of hood in a wet carbon layup. These are multi layered, non-Fiberglass backing and sent through an autoclave for a dry carbon layup. That means - it's lighter, and you can jump up and down on it and it will not break.

Mugen is too much cash unless you just have wads of cash to burn. The difference between the CF and FRP (~18 lbs) is hardly worth $3k difference in my eyes. Its your cash though so do what you want.

the aero effects are moot, we can't go fast enough too see the effects of the mugen top vs OEM. A hardtop alone is a great improvement over the rag top.

it wont if the top is installed properly. poor install=shitty fitment

The carbon version isn't stronger to provide any more usefulness, it's lighter, that's it. Again, there's no such thing as "dry carbon," that's just a shitty japanese to english translator that can't explain the different methods to make a composite piece. Jumping up and down on something doesn't say a whole lot about it's quality. The engineering behind the product for proper fitment and function are golden here and mugen definitely did their homework.

when I emailed King Motorsports about the weight difference awhile back, they said the fiberglass version weighs 15lbs more than the CF. Anyone notice that the fiberglass versions price went up 200 bucks?
