Default JDM H22A from Accord is only 180hP ?

I've read this in a couple of different places now and am not sure if its true..

apparently there was an accord with H22 and this engine only yielded 180hp as opposed to the 200 from the prelude.

is this true??

What would cause it to loose power ?

And its not the engine itself, they're factoring in more drivetrain loss from the auto transmission. The engine itself should be the same.

A shop told me it has different cams tuned for a lower RPM peak, because its an automatic, but they have been wrong before...

Actually, I read in Honda Tuner that Auto tranny H22's are lower HP too. I think they mentioned the same reason behind it. They recommended not buying just an H22 longblock because many longblocks were pulled from auto tranny H22's.

Who knows. :dunno

Hmm, this would be a good time to see if these people are right. Dyno the car when you are done with the swap.

the example in my situation was one of those accord H23VTEC motors with the blue valve cover.

I had an H22A from an automatic (had a torque converter...), and when I replaced my broken USDM motor, the car's performance on the drag strip was equal to or better.

It's the cams. It was always the cams!

Damn! i always thought it was because of auto tranny that they rated the hp that way. I was sent an auto lsd jdm h22a by accident. So I decided to just keep it because of the shipping hassle. I really never thought anything of it. I got done swapping in a h22 tranny. I was running a h23 tranny. But i havent had time to fab up the exhaust. So i really havent drove it around yet. I still got my usdm h22 cams. Maybe i'll put it in to make a comparison and get a dyno to see where i'm at on whp and tq.

If you do change out the cams you should measure them to see if there really is a difference. I would be very interested to know. Also I would get the crower stage 2 since it is cheaper than the Skunk2 and you can run the Crower 2's with stock valvetrain. just my opinion

Ive already checked it out for you guys along time ago

On the JDM honda website it shows auto and 5spd h22a's side by side and every single internal spec is the SAME. Except for tranny and throttle body.

auto and manual h22a's are the same.
i hav had both and they both dynoed within 1 hp of each other. i bought a 5 spd swap and put down 176hp, then later bought an auto longblock and put down 175hp.

and a buddy of mine ran a 15 flat with an auto h22A with the auto tranny AND 18s in an accord.

the f20b is the one that is 200 and 180....

Someone is confused. The only 180ps 'H22a' is the F20B Automatic in the Accord SiR. The SiR-T is manual the F20B in that has 200ps

To give more midrange the Auto F20B has a smalller TB, different cam grind and ecu tuning.

No H22as have downgraded ratings, that is until the SS models in the 5th gen
the auto h22as just have a smaller tb, just change it
