B18 Vs B18c5
I've been thinking about buying a ITR for a daily driver but after looking at some of the ITRs available and the prices, I can buy a GSR for 3k less then anyITR.
What difference is there between a GSR & ITR? Is it 3k worth of parts?

The ITR will be worth the $3k if:
1. You track the car
2. You can afford the insurance/maintenance
3. You will not commit suicide if your car gets stolen.

Nos?
well type R is worth the extra 3 G for ME but i want you to get a gsr.. not type R.
if you are asking this question . i guess you wont appriciate the type R for $3000 more.
when i got my type R. i just wanted the TYPE R.. never thought about a gs-r once.
and i was in waiting list for 8 months before i got my hands on the R.
if you dont LOVE the type R dont bother getting one.

ITR has more than 3K worth of parts and Honda R&D over GSR.
In order to make a GSR beat an ITR in all aspects (road racing, drag racing, autoX, skidpad, braking, chassis rigidity, etc.) you'll need more than $3k difference.
REMEMBER - ITR insurance is a killer for anyone under 25 y.o. w/ anything less than a spectacular driving record.

Buy a ITR and be done with it. You'll be happy you did. Besides, this is a Type R forum. I think everyone here will steer you towards it anyways. In my personal experience I drove a 1999 GSR for like a month or two and wasn't really fond of it. Then a Type R came along and WOW, totally different monster.

Yes
Yes
if you really want you can buy an itr, replace some of the itr stuff with gsr stuff then you will have a bit more then 3k left over, lets break it down:
itr seats and door panels trade forleather plus 6 or 700 bucks
itr cf dash acessories traded for regular plus like 300 for all
itr cluster trade for gsr plus like 100
itr 5lug trade for gsr suspension and twistys plus 1000,
itr spoiler trade for gsr plus 100
and finaly:
itr swap trade for gsr and like 2grand
plus the itr just has the better handling chasis too which is priceless, so all it all it is definitly worth 3000 extra

damn dont even tell him that man. make him buy a gsr..
- Type R is real crazy on insurance.
- Every thifts wants ITR not gsr
- Type r has no leather seats.
- No A/C you can have it with dealer optional.
- you still get 1.8L Vtec with Gs-r and save your self about 3000.
- Type R is just LITTLE faster than gsr.
- you can turbo your gsr with that 3000
so dont buy a type r. it sucks

THIS IS VERY UNTRUE I HAVE GSR AND HAVE ONLY PUT A GRAND INTO IT. STOCK CAMS AND ITR USDM PISTONS AND MILLED HEAD AND SOME BOLTONS AND I PULL ITRS. ITR IS OVERATED SORRY. THE CAR LOOKS GOOD BUT MOTOR IS OVERATED AND OVERPRICED. TRANNY IS THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THAT MOTOR.

I'd say get the ITR if:
1) You have a garage to put it in.
2) You have a beater so that you wont have to drive it to work or places where you will lose sight of it and risk getting it stolen. (Friend lost his 2001 with only 8800k's on it this way)
3) Can afford the insurance.
Othersise get the GSR because the ITR will be lost as soon a theft spots it.

HAHAHHA funny stuff. I usually hang out in the FI forum, but got bored today. If you have to ask you obviously don't get it, the whole Type R thing that is.
saying a type r is overrated and overpriced is like saying that a greddy turbo kit is overrated and overpriced. it's not about adding the parts in a $$$ way, the car is so much more than just a sum of its parts. and good parts at that
m/b there should be a permanent sticky in this forum titled:
"What you get in a Type R vs. GSR" i know the engine is meticulously hand assembled in JDM land, read that somewhere here on ht. someone had posted all of the myriad details that make up the B18C5 (sodium filled valves or something???
)
Now I have a gsr turbo that can literally smoke the living daylights out of many R's but then I got a chance to drive a fully R converted ek hatch. WOW.........
the way the parts all work together to create such a driving experience was amazing. everything that the driver touches is wonderfully driver oriented. nice grippy steering wheel, clutch feel = excellent(same for gas and brake), excellent shifter, and that LSD
.
to this day i still dream about doing a type r swap into a nice civic for a daily driver.
yes many other cars/setups go faster, but you'd be hardpressed to find one or build one that delivers that kind of Smiles per Mile.
Oh and to the thread starter: DON'T get one. They are slow and easily beaten by any GSR with a 1000 in mods
