funny idle

funny idle
when my car is in neutral...the idle gets funy. it goes up slowly to 1.5k and then drops down to just below 1k. it does this over and over and over.
don't know what it is...and no CELs are being thrown.
similar thing happened a while back (allthough it was more severe idleing)...and i replaced my distributer. it threw a code 7 or 9 (can't remember)...but it was one of the sensors in the dizzy.
any relation...or even the same problem? somebody help...thanks!
