Mini Me SOHC build up... (what to do next)
So I am kind of in a bind here, and I am not sure what cam or valves to go with because there is not too much info out there... all I have read about is skunk2... some people say they are great, and some say they are shitty...
I am leaning towards skunk2 because that seems to be the only thing on the market that I have come across... but what about other companies... I've heard little about the zex cam... info would be great onanything...
I have a stock Z6 head that I am going to take up to the machine shop and get PnP one day... how far can/should I go with the port job??
I have read that the stock Z6 springs are strong enough to rev up to 9K is this safe though?
so far on the motor it is a stock bottom D15b7 with a Z6 head, Skunk2 I/M with H22 throttle body, skunk2 camgear, and skunk2 chipped P28...
the next thing I am looking at upgrading is the valves and ret. (possibly springs) but anything else you guys think I should do next or within the near future?? thanks a lot

i don't have much imput besides I would replace the valve springs before the valves,I would think they are more likely to cause problems when reving high.
Also if your planning on getting a PnP and new valves I would go with a 3 angle valve job(or whatever it's called nowadays lol) and a little over bore and some oversize valves
you'll should gain some power from doing that

cool, now where can I find some oversized valves... as in who makes them so I can start searching...
right now, I'm putting 125whp... with what i;ve got...

Even if the springs could rev that high A cam that would make Power that high would most likely cause the stock springs to Bind which would be very very bad!!
Spring bind just means when the spring does not have enough "room" or compression to allow the valve to drop the amount of lift the cam is producing well you know what happens. The valves becomes solid but there is still more lift and you wreck havoc. hope that helps

alright I searched and there seems to be mixed feelings about oversized valves. If your staying NA then it seems to be stay stock size but turbo or nitrous oversized is a good thing but it requires more headwork than one would think and you would need to replace you valve seals and such.

For the head: Have them do a mild to good port job, you don't need to sacrifice velocity and it's on the street anyways. Get the 3-angle valve job and if you can get 1mm oversized valves. Check out the ZEX/Comp Cams lineup for the z6, the cam has some of the best lift and duration on the market. I picked my #59300 cam for only $230, beats the hell out of what Skunk is asking. Get ZEX's matching springs and retainers to boot as well. That should make for a pretty sick SOHC head. The springs would be the most important upgrade in my book, nothing sucks more than max'ing out your springs or valve float.
If you don't already have a good header on there i would do that, either a Bisimoto header if you have the cash or a DC 4-1 if you're cheap like me.
Here are some good sites for you to check out for parts:
