Default Looking for a Good Racing School

Hello,

I'm trying to find a good racing school that can teach proper driving techniques on the track. I thought about skip barber but I wasn't sure if practicing on a formula car would help me in a street car, as far as proper line, turn ins, etc.

I've been to a good amount HPDE's FATT events, but every instructor I get provides contradictory advise from one and another, which gets pretty frustrating. Is there a school out there that will provide consistent advice so I can have a solid basis to follow and practice with? I would like to get a solid base down before I start my SCCA licensing program. Also I will be moving to Newport Beach, CA in about a month so I guess anything that is on the side of the coast would be great.

There are a number of good schools that can give you a god introduction and have a blast at the same toime. Although all of my racing has been in production based sedans, some of the more enjoyable schools have neem in school formula cars. The disciplines are nasically the same but the formula cars are higher on the fun factor. I enjoyed the Derek Daly school at LAs Vegas the most but the Russell school at Infineon was good too. Although I have not done BArber, I doubt you can go wrong there either. IF you have your heart set on a fendered car school, Bondurant has them as well but their Corvettes and Mustangs may differ from what you will drive.

Professional instruction is a more structured atmosphere with more seat time (most are 3 days) is going to do more than the HDPE format with experienced but not professional instructors riding alongside. Pro schools cost more but if you can swing one, it can be very beneficial.

Thanks for the input. I'll take a look at the schools you mentioned, especially the Derek Daly school. At this point, I'm willing to do anything to make sure that I'm getting the proper technique down.

Hands down Skip Barber is by far the best racing school there is. They are the largest school in the world and have the best instructors in the world. They are a great orginization and I would spend 3k to go back in no time. oh wait I am spending 2.5 K to go back for the advanced school

The Bridgestone/Firestone school at Mosport Driver Development track teaches racing in F2000 cars. You get to do two races on last day after having learned rolling starts and drafting and passing into corners. I took that school and I do not know of any other school that teaches those things in Formula cars with wings. It was a blast. Leading in my first race was the most fun I ever had (unfortunately I outbraked myself and two guys passed me so I ended up third;-). You get an SCCA accreditation. I think their site is race2000.com. Highly recommended. I also did a 3 day Russell school in F1600 cars before that one, and learned a lot. Plus these cars are way way more fun than a tin top. I would however have to vote for a school that teaches actual racing techniques and let's you race to ty it out.
