crvtec or ls/vtec
but if u build them right which would be better with a gsr head? i was planning on building up a motor on the side. which is better? money meaans nuithin. it will just take longer
My recommendation goes with the LS\VTEC.
B20 block has thinner cylinder walls, they are not as good by design as the LS cylinder walls if you choose to sleeve them because they are siamesed.
B20 is a monolithic block design, over all not as stable as the LS.
Can the B20 rev to 8,000rpms daily and reliably? Absolutely, money makes the world go around. Cost effective? Not in my opinion.
You can change the displacement of a block to go bigger or smaller. Personally, I plan on making an LS block into a 2.2 or a 2.4L block. That way displacement is no longer the decision making factor. Reliabilty, power, grunt, aftermarket support all become more important.
There is a good kit for these two motors.... http://www.goldeneaglemfg.com/str_vtecsystem.html
You can convert one of those to a VTEC setup easily, in your garage, without machining, with hand tools. Cost effective, and everything needed for reliabilty and to make sure that you do it right is included.
I recommened also the Moroso Oil pan and pickup for either of those motors.
Also consider upgrading your fuel delivery system, VTEC is a fuel and oil *****. Look to Bosch for the best products IMO.
The GSR head will be the best choice, but if you are heavily upgrading the head and money is a big factor, just go with a B16 head. Forget Type R heads unless you have a lot of money to spend. The heads are pretty close to the same ( yes I know the differences ) even with the different power that they make, but if you are doing a lot of work to the head, regardless of which you pick, more money into the stock head is less smart IMO. I'd go with a GSR head, but I have a B16 head, so I will go with that most likely. Type R heads have good valvetrain's etc... but the hand porting and polishing is just a dude deburring it, not necessarily doing a huge performance vavle job and all of that.
For .2 more Liters of displacement, the amount of money you sink into doing it right is not nearly worth it. You can make a bigger displacement LS block with more reliabilty and possiblities and less money lost cause you won't have to worry about blowing it, unless you turbo it and don't know what you are doing when it's tuned.
The choice is yours, but facts are facts, same with thought and sense... Hope I could help a little

thanx for teh facts. i think i will go with the ls/vtec. the only thing i dont understand about doing an 'ls/vtec are the mods i have to do to the head and or block. i heard u had to do sumthin to the oil like adda n oil line or sumthin. wat all do i have to do to the head and or block?
