This has been bothering me since my trip to LA... My maintenance required light came on during the trip (89900 miles) and I reset it because I had already replaced the required maintenance items a while ago. However, during the return trip home my Side Airbag light came on, not the SRS light ... it stayed on for about 10 seconds then turned back off.

Anyway fast forward to today and my side airbag light came on again.. and after 10 or so seconds turned back off... Im not sure what is wrong but should I worry abou it? Also I have an extended warranty on the car but they usually charge 80 bucks for the diagnostic even if there is nothing wrong with the car...

Any ideas? suggestions on things to check? or just leave it alone?

FYI: I bought the car used but it has a clear carfax, no car accidents or anything but I did have to get the wiring harness fixed due to AC and fan continously blowing hot air.

it is nothing.. if some one or some thing sit on that side of the door panal..it will light up....when the light is on that means that air bag will not deploy.. its for safey.. dont worry about it

 

To answer questions, yes someone was sitting on the front passenger seat at the time the light came on... otherwise I have not noticed that it comes on.

Also, I put my cellphone in the center console, not on the seat.. just curious though, why do you ask about the cellphone?

Ok, so basically if someone is sitting and leaning next to the door the side airbag light will come on? Hrm.. strange why it never comes on when I lean on my side... *shrug*

There's a sensor in the passenger seat, not the driver's seat. It's there to detect a child or small adult. If either is in the seat, the passenger side air bag will not deploy. It's normal.

The reason someone asked you about your cell phone is any electrical interference will cause a false reading and/or diagnostic trouble code.
