Help, my battery is DEAD!!
My car was sitting in the garage for the last 3 days and it was -25degree C outside. When I went out to try to start the car today, the battery is TOTALLY DEAD. When I turn the key, it didn't even make a single sound. This battery I have is the stock one came with the car and it is like 5yrs and 110000km old.
So I think it is time to look for a NEW battery and I would like to look into some light weight battery. So did anyone know where can I find some strong light weight battery that can be use daily and in the very damn cold winter condition?

Im not sure about the cold weather performance, but i have an optima battery. Its smaller than stock and you can mount it any way since its sealed. Just my .02
Don't bother with the lightweight battery. The stock performs well and weighs only 28 lbs from what I remember. A light weight battery will maybe save you 10 to 15 lbs and be double the price with lesser performance out of it.
I got my Oprtima from a local car audio place, but i think you should be able to find one on the net without any trouble. I havent noticed any less performance from this bettery, but again, i live in Florida.
It's dead because it is frozen. When I lived in Winnipeg - I used a block heater AND a battery warmer (buy at Can Tire). -25 C is extremely cold - no battery is going to work in those conditions.
You should try removing the battery and let it warm up to room temperature. Then recharge it and see how it does. You might want to have a load test done on it to make sure it still has some life in it (you don't want to get stranded with a dead battery in a parking lot).
Get an aftermarket battery and don't even think of one of those lightweight ones.

OK, if the light weight one is not good at all, then what is the best aftermarket one out there? Or should I just goto Canadian Tire to get those proven to work at -50 degree C battery!!
Unless you are using a mondo stereo system that requires a deep-cycle marine battery, I would suggest ANY of the aftermarket batteries. Delco is good, Sears is good, Canadian Tire batteries are good. I really shouldn't matter as they all have pretty good warranties. I used to use Interstate batteries but found they weren't much better than the Canadian Tire ones.
The gel-cel type of batteries are nice because they don't leak and can be mounted in any position - again these are targeted at audiophile type installations and you are spending a lot on a battery that in terms of performance will be of minimal benefit to you. You must remember that when your car is running it's running off the alternator not the battery. The battery is used for just starting your car. Getting a block heater and/or a battery blanket is what you really need for the cold weather (that and a fully charged battery of course).
