transmission changeover for swap?
I am trying to buy a 4th gen and probably swap in an H22a. I am shopping for a 5-speed accord, because I'm sure if I buy a front clip, it will have a manual tranny.
I understand It's much more difficult and expensive to change over an auto to a 5-speed. Is my assumption correct?
And would appreciate any estimate on cost, if I turbo that H22a.

and good luck....and yes it WILL cost you, but you can usually get good deals if you are patient and search the classifieds. im in the process of doing the same with my 5th gen.

OK, so the easiest thing is to find a good 5-speed, and it will all hook up to the prelude tranny.
Also I know the swap (parts & labor) could go from $3-5k. How much more $ if a turbo was added?

well the h22's internals are pretty weak not to mention it has high compression...so to run some decent boost (10psi ~ 12psi) you would beed to some internal work (sleeves/pistons/rods/etc). h22 is notorious for weak ringlands, but i hear of people running 7 psi TUNED (most important!!! can run you ~1k alone)....more importantly, what do you want out of this car? horsepower goal, etc...i personally chose to turbo my f22b2....
sigh...decisions, decisions.I though turboing the H22a would give more torque and not need so much high rev-ing. the f22 has about 93k on it and don't know how many psi it could take.(someone once recommended that).
Thanks for your help.
Does a stock 93 LX have an f22a1, f22a4, or f22a6

search under the data section itll answer your engine question...
the f22 can take boost like a beast assuming you have a good compression. 7 ~ 10psi is common place....i think someone ran 14 or 15 for a good while. figure out what you want to do, and what your horsepower goal is....
the h22 turbo'ed would be a friggin beast....i would love one...but to get it to run semi-high boost and the such reliably would be expensive in my opinion. the h22 swap alone would give your accord a whole new feel...so just consider that for now
edit: if im misinforming in any way please correct me!

I am not a mechanic (although I am trying to learn this stuff)
If I took this f22a with 93k and wanted to turbo it.... what should be changed out (head gasket, etc...) to make it up to the task of 6-8 psi, and would it be reliable? I'd like to have 180-200 whp. (stock I think is like 106 whp)

well....just do a compression check...if it checks out dont change anything....run 7psi....and most importantly TUNE THAT SUCKER! dont skimp on tuning...its the key to running a reliable car...no matter what kind of mod you do to it (minus bolt ones...though i may help
). numbers are different for everyone....so do a search on f22 turbo in the archives...but you could expect 180 ~ 200 ... maybe more...i forget. you can use the DSM 1g turbo manifolds too since you have an f22a....so you can set up a turbo setup relatively cheap. the DSM manifolds/blow off valve/turbo/injectors are not too shabby...especially for a newb. do one thing first...search this forum and read everywhere you can about turbos before you actually do it and drop some cash...make sure this is something you want...and dont be afraid to ask stupid questions!

I'd recommend doing as much of the swap that you can... I did my h22 swap and auto-manual conversion in my 4th gen all myself. It takes time, patience and a lot of swearing but in the end you'll know a lot more about your car and makes troubleshooting any future problems you might have with your car (god forbid) that much easier to do yourself.
But like everybody says there is unlimited information as well as step by steps for doing it yourself, all the parts you're going to need, and things you need to take into consideration in this forum as well as others. But then again if you have the money and cannot afford the down time of doing it yourself just have someone else do the work. Personally I like the satisfaction of doing it myself regardless of the frustration you encounter. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

I'd like to do it myself. I'm taking some automotive classes in the spring. and I'm not in a big hurry. so I might just wait til I have the confidence to do it. but in any case it's good to know what pro labor costs are on any job.
