Default Cold Air problem/My New-old Momo wheel.

I installed my Mugen cold air intake yesterday. Every thing was normal it was intalled and went way down into my front bumper.

Then I took it for a test drive and I had NO POWER. Every thing was hooked up right so why I have this power loss?
So I took the pipe extecton off and made it shorter now it runs great. I dont get it?

I also got my dirty hands on this old Momo steering wheel. Its awsome!

CAI is over rated, stick with the short intake. Just my $.02

Oh yeah that stearing wheel looks great

I hope you didn't pay more than $75 intake.

As for what happened when you installed your cai extension, something was probably just pintched off somewhere.

Well its just a tube, and a filter. I was going to make one but this one was on ebay for $50. So I got it. Where could have been pinched?

If nothing was clogged/pinched (which should've been pretty obvious) and you didn't dislodge something else near the installation area (like plug wires, vacuum lines, battery ground, etc.)...two things:

1) From your dash and seat upholstery it looks like you have an 88-89 CRX-Si. If you still have the stock 88-89 bumper (with no foglight holes to cut-out) did you put the CAI down into the bumper area as is? I've known some people to remove (or cut a hole in) the back splash guard, in the wheel well area, to get fresh air in there. If not, all you are doing is pulling the warm engine air from the bay, down into the old intake resonator area, via the (now smaller) hole left around the CAI tube passing through the frame there. A short ram would pull the same air, but with less restriction. Just an idea, which I've never seen come up before, but maybe that old resonator area was more "sealed up" on your car than everyone elses.

2) More probably though, I would bet it was the ECU. Did you just install it and go? Or did you unplug the ECU, replug then let it idle for 5-10 minutes and reset the timing jumper (forget if this part is totally necessary)? I used to see people do write up's long time ago (when the average mod was I/H/E bolt-ons) about resetting the stock ECU... I think that first test drive you did was basically the re-learning period for the ECU (for the presumable change in airflow). So your shortening of the CAI really wasn't the solution, I would bet if you put it back to full length now it would work.

Well thank you very much XrcR6 you have been alot of help. I did not reset me ECU. I forgot all about that and my kit did not have directions and no one realy talks about the correct way to do such "Easy" bolt on's it seams. I think I will drive it as is for a while then put it back down there and do what you said and reset the ECU. You were very discriptive.

Your ecu does not have to be reset after installing this

What do you mean by no power? like engine wants to die or you didnt feel the incredible 2-3whp you get from an intake?

I dont see what you can do wrong when installing an intake

1.I used "Airplane Paint stripper" on it and in about 10min all the pain just washed off.
2.Then I cleaned it with don dish soap to get all the grease off.

3.I purchased "John Deer High temp Red" at AutoZone for $3.75.

4.Then I put Vaseline on the parts that I wanted to stay metal.

5. I painted and wiped off the vaseline and sanded the raised text and Honda logo.

It turned out great!

It had No pull, Like I had 30 less Hp. I could floor it and a ford aspire could pull just as hard. Then when I shortend it, it ran great even better then it did before. It also idled better.

So that is what is confusing...

i think what happend was what that other guy said. very little air was getting to it. you could cut the splash gaurd and that would help i think.

Aren't you supposed to put a hose from where that yellow cap is to your valve cover? and if not, aren't you supposed to put two mini filters. For example, stop by the pepboys ricer section and buy the small filters. Two of them. One for the valve cover and one to replace the yellow cap on your intake.

Yep its called a breather filter, I have one installed but my spark plug wires hide it from view. I just found that yellow plug to plug the hole I am not using.

Yes I have other pic's of my valve cover and I will host in a min.

Yes it came with a hose it puts a little bit of exhaust back in to the intake if I rember right. But I pluged it up and put a small filter over the bung off the valve cover.

Here is more pictures of my valve cover.
