Like the topic says, im just wondering how much a stock clutch for an 00 civic ex can handle. The car is going to be boosted and i do plan on putting a better one in, i just want to know if i can go ahead with the install and drive around with the stock one for a while. any info would help. thanks.

 

Mine lasted 3 weeks with not so hard driving, so I would say just get a better one, and do it at the same time. Or you are going to be working on your car twice. I know people have stock clutches hold up, but why take the chance, and waste the time.

yea i guess i should just wait a lil longer and get the clutch also. any ideas on which ones i should look at? with my first set up im looking to get around 230 or so..... and eventually i wanna build the motor and shoot for 300. thanks for the info.

I made 340hp with mine, but now I think I'm running around 250hp +or- and so far its held eveytime and I have about 7,000-10,000miles I would say on it!

If you want you could go the six puck from ACT. If you really feel like driving one, but that would hold just about whatever you throw at it.

 

I ran ~180whp through my stocker for about 5k miles. It was fine, just don't try to launch it hard. Got heat soaked real fast and was spongy for a while after. If you drive it nicely, it can handle most full boost driving, just not clutch slipping situations (launch)

Are you getting someone to put it in? If you do it yourself you can get away with like under $400 in a good clutch and pressure plate. Make sure to get the throw out bearing and pilot bearing, and maybe get the flywheel turned. BUt taking it to a shop is a mistake, they will charge a lot for it. but if you can't do it then that might be your only option. My dad got one done on an AWD talon for $1000 but i know honda's are easier. Just a figure.

 

well ive never installed a clutch before so i was going to see if i could take it somewhere and get it installed. i was actually going to take it where i was gonna get the turbo installed and ask them how much it would be to install that also, but if its going to be that much i might ask a few people that i know are capable of that work if they wouldnt mind helping out.

 

Are you not capable of doing it yourself or just don't want to. If you do it yourself you will actually learn something and know how to tune it. It will be much easier to tune.

 

I've got 10k boosted miles on my stock clutch. Boosting 9psi at normal driving. Seems to be holding well although I am planning on a new clutch in the future when I build my motor for more boost.

 

itll hold up depending on how hard u drive it. wita turbo your gonna end up wanting to test yoru limits so your clutch will feel shitty after while. and its not good for the motor or the tranny to be driving around and pushing hard on your car wit a shitty clutch ,because you are straining the motor.upgrade to a better clutch kit. i just put in a act clutch kit and a flywheel from them. works great.
