how loud is 101 db
It depends on too many variables most importantly exhaust construction (and where you got it pointed) but that sound limit is a little below the standard db limit for SCCA club racing. Whether you blow the db limit also depends on the temp, humidity and other factors too. One day you may be fine. The next day you are being black flagged. Out comes the steel wool shoved up the exhaust.

pretty f'ing loud...

if a pneumatic drill (95ish) is less than 101 and each point raise is what? 10 times louder than the previous? i'd say 101 is ridiculous.
here is another... as loud as a nyc subway? are they really that loud?

Yes.
Yes.
10 dB has 10 times the intensity, but quantifying 'loudness' from dB is difficult. different frequencies will sound louder than others, hence harley's not sounding too offensive
but hondas are in the nasty frequency range, so 101dB sounds pretty effin loud

I ran a straight 2.5" from a 4-2-1 header in my Civic (D16Z6) to the stock location. I got readings of 105db & 106db at Grattan. I installed a turn on the end and the reading went down to 101db/102db (same day). Weather also has a lot to do with sound readings. Rain or damp conditions = louder readings. The muffler I'm installing this winter should get me down under 99db in any conditions.
