Default b16 w/99 gsr tranny?

I have a b16 with y21 non-lsd tranny. My tranny is pooched, i grind into 2nd and 4th. I can get a good deal on a 99 gsr tranny. But would it be worth it to get? I mean the y21 is horrible for highway driving so would the y80/s80 (not completely sure which one it is) be better for the highway without making my car slower?

It will make your car slower(longer gears), but will be better on the highway.

if ur planning to run ur car on the track alot..... then stay with the b16 tranny... i dont see too much difference between the 2 anyways.. just gear ratios..

i plan on building a mild poor mans R over the winter, but my tranny is pooched so i need to do something about it. With this in mind should i get another b16 y21 or a gsr y80/s80?
I don't really ever go to the track but i drive on the highway a lot.
Maxpsi:
Are you saying that the gsr y80/s80 has a stronger diff and dual cone synchros or the b16 y21 does?

Like someone said already, If you have the Si tranny it will accelerate faster than it would with the GSR tranny.

It's all up to you and what YOU want, for highway driving I would suggest the GSR tranny but you will lose acceleration.

i see. Can i take 5th gear from an LS or GSR tranny and transplant it into the y21? I don't know much about trannies so any help is appreciated.
I've got a chart with the gear ratios from b-series trannies. So the smaller the number the longer the gear? ****, i am so confused.
here's the chart:

doing that wont change ur gas mileage or anything. it may seem like ur rpm's are lower but ull just increase ur top speed by tons. with a b16 who cares if you top out at 120, no need to be going that fast anyways.

Its not that i want to go faster than 120km...its that i don't want to be a 4,000rpm while doing 120km/hr
