Sensors are going off. Time for brake pads. Sooner or later it's going to squeak all the time.

brake pads are designed to squeak when they need to be replaced..

not sensors , squeal indicators.

could be dust in the drums.

drums in the back right?
theres these points in the drum brakes that you are suppost to lube if you dont they will sqeak when you let off the brake.
you put that sticky nasty brake caliper lube on those points and it will go away

Does your friend's EX have rear drum brakes or rear disc brakes (has ABS)?

If it's only making noise when he takes his foot off the pedal, it could be a loose brake pad caused by something like the caliper not moving properly.

my car used to do it and my friends car did after he replace the brake shoes in the back. so did mines. both of us did not lube those points its like a lump on the back plate of the drum.
like i said theres these points on the drum brake system that the pad will rub on and it will cause a sqeaking.
look in the hemls if you want it tells you to lube these points for a reason.
why would they make sounds after he let off the brake. those sensors or indicators are only suppost to sound when you apply the brakes not let off it.

if the car is equipped with rear disc brakes than its the rear brake pad indicator, the pad on the inside of the rotor has a metal piece sticking out, thats the indicator
