Default ---I need advice on B16B motor!!!---

Hey.. i just swapped in a B16b into my 98 hatch..
it has stock everything..

but the problem is that i feel like im loosing a lot of power at the lower end...

also my vtec kicks in at 6200 RPM...

I know that the B16B is a touring motor.. not drag motor..

but I want to increase my acceleration at the lower end...

would lowering my vtec engagement point help with my acceleration?

or clutch and flywheel?

I need opinions!!!!

Thanks for looking

Congrats about the swap I also have the B16b and lowering the VTEC helped out alot, I only lowered mine to 5800 but it is still a 1.6 so it has no torque so its still going to feel weak till VTEC. No need to replace the clutch unless it has problems, however a lighter flywheel would help and a new FD. I guess if you are replacing the flywheel you should just do the clutch while you are in there. I am planning on stroking mine to a 1.8. Good Luck

8lb flywheel would be the first thing to change if it was my motor, then pop in a gsr/itr crank to make that bad boy a 1.8L

Good choice on motor its my personal favorite

go ITR crank and ITR rods or GSR crank and Rods....this will give you 1.8 liters....and thus give you about 15-20 ft more torque...

Less displacement=less torque

slap a ls crank in there like me
gsr crank would be great. drops right in there.
and with the ctr pistons you got some nice comp
throw some cams in there like the buddy club spec3 or skunk2 stage 1 and its all good.

i have a B16B in my 98 hatch as well. if you want more lower end power. I think you could do the following.

new clutch
Lighter flywheel

or change the bottom end out with a GSR or ITR. but then you will have a 1.8L insted of a 1.6L

well as fars as I know those two things help u to rev the engine faster and shift quickly like if u acclerate u go like this bbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,shift,,,,,,baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,,,,,,,,,shift ,,,,,,,,,,,, aa so on

but if u change those to thing for a lighter one's wich is good u will be like

Ha, ha, real ******* funny. I was comparing the b16 to the b18, h22, and so on. My response had noting to do with what you said.

I have vtec kickin in at 5700 on a katman program but i need a clutch. The flywheel would be nice but would hurt you if you ever go to the track. The FD would make you accelerate faster but at the cost of losing some speed top end.
