shat! i think my AC Condenser just died! grind grind clunk clunk squeak squeak
so i jumped in my car at lunchtime to run some errands and went a couple miles and i noticed a loud squeaking after taking a slight turn. i thought.. hmm, thats weird, maybe im low on ps fluid... then a few seconds later it started squeaking again... but this time i was going straight so it wasnt the ps fluid... i quickly hit the a/c button to turn the a/c off and the noise stopped. i push the a/c button again (to turn it back on) and i hear this slight clunk clunk noise and then that squeaking again.... poop!
its 93 degrees outside and i think my a/c condenser just died!
any input? is that what died?
we're planning on taking a 1200 mile road trip this coming thursday so i need to fix this asap! i'll need to replace the a/c condenser and then evacuate/charge the refrigerant again, right?
thanks guys!
EDIT : I MEANT COMPRESSOR, not condenser

anyone else?
does the compressor normally go bad? or just the clutch?
whats involved in changing the clutch? can i change the clutch with the compressor still on the car? so, i wont need to evacuate/recharge?
sorry, its a 96 civic ex with 120k miles

its not the condensor, its the compressor. the condensor turns the vapor a/c into a liquid hence the name condensor, it condenses. now yes you can change the clutch with out removing the compressor. but i think the compressor is bad.
