are they changing the Si's motors or anything in 05 as well?
Does anybody know if they are changing the si's motor/head or just tuning it for more Hp or are they leaving this model behind and making the RSX far superior
doubt a change in the a3. Honda's doing terrible in sales with the EP3, I don't think they'll try something new with its last year of production.
I bet they will keep it the same, but I wonder what the changes will be when they change the model back into a coupe design. They know now what people think about the 00si and the 02si so hopefully they will go from there.
Honda usually gives the last model year of a car some free cosmetic bells and whistles thrown in, so they dont have to lower the price and incur depreciation. They're off to an early start with the 04's 5-lug and sideskirts.
Yea i'm not a fan of the way the new coupes look, might as well keep the same body style as the CTR. But it is possible that putting the Si back in coupe form could open the door for the CTR to make its way into the states. I know there was thread about motortrend saying it was coming, and people were saying that rumor was dead, who knows, certainly makes sense if the Si does infact return to coupe form.

An Si coupe makes sense in the USA. I hate to say it, but the united states is not a hatch country, lke most of europe, Japan, etc.
Plus, the Si coupes in 99-00 sold way better than any other Si I can ever remember.
As far as the CTR returning to the US shores. Stick a fork in it--it's dead. The way I could see it happening is if the RSX gets bigger or dies off completely. The CTR would compete directly with the RSX-S otherwise. Why would Honda do that? Only Domestics seem ok to compete with themselves (Firebird/Camaro, Sunfire/cavalier, etc).

Typo.
And the B16a was a torqueless motor in a heavy chassis (99-00 Si). They weren't any faster than a 89-91 Si or 92-95 Si hatch.

i work at honda and i have the 05 Si brochures already. looks like the only thing that has changed is the brochure. all the same pages just in different order. so looks like the car is staying identical to 04.

While in general Americans don't LOVE hatches per se I don't think the hatch is what killed the Si. The Mini, Protege5, 3, WRX Wagon, and Golf all seem to sell fine despite their 3rd or 5th door. I think styling is much more important with a hatch but ultimately several factors caused the EP3 to be imsuccessful.
Had the car weighed 24xx and retailed for $17500 or $18000 it might have had a legit chance. But it didn't and it has several other things working against it.

Certainly agree with you there. $19,500 is just too much to pay for a five speed, open diff, 160 HP hatch.

Honda (of America and the US Government) is rapidly removing themselves from the best thing that's ever happened to them = US! Sure there are thousands of non-modifying Honda buyers out there and that's all good but if they were educated on what they were missing out on compared to what the other countries get in the same car... I think they'd be dissapointed also. Geez... the small 92-95 EG's came with a DOHC over seas in most (if not all other markets) other than the US and possibly so on a few earlier models!
On a side note:
If Motorex can make a steady business of importing Skylines from below $20k and over $50k... maybe someone should start a business importing other Hondas. It seems like a good idea and could cure all the crying we do about not getting the cool Hondas imported here in the US.
With the JDM craze... heck... this (I think) would be a nice lucrative business!
Sure it wouldn't be cheap or easy to do this... but noone said it would be cheap or easy either!
Just ask the guys at Motorex... it's not like they just found a place, had a duffle bag full of $100's, sat down, tossed one back and said, "Oh dude... we're gonna sell imported Skylines from here!"

I meant that it's an engine that would be better used in the EG or EK chassis.

I don't think it's worthwhile at all in the business sense to start a business importing Hondas to here. For the price of an ITR from evolutionmotorsports, I can get myself a turbocharged car, the Evo. (29xxx) The market is too competitive for importing of Hondas that don't make it here - most of the customers that would want it, would rather pay for the better (faster) car.
edit: motorex and skylines work well because many people believe the skyline to be pretty impressive (capability of 900whp with good turbo.)

Chassis are the same now on the latest gen cars. Just get the motor/tranny through a motor importer and bolt and go.
Who wants a RHD car in the US anyways?
