HELP!! Never Ending Idle Problem!!
Ok, I had another thread where I was asking questions about my IACV and my idle problem but it seems no one could answer my questions so I'll try to put all the info into one thread and ask again.
At first my problem was an idle that would jump from 1000rpm to 1600rpm all the time. I was told to clean my IACV and see what happened. I took it off and cleaned it then put it back on. My problem was solved... for a few miles.
Then I took an IACV off of a 94 LS that had been in an accident [friend of mine] which ran PERFECT before the accident so the IACV was fine. I took my IACV off and replaced it with the LS one. Before putting the IACV from the LS on my intake manifold I made sure I cleaned it thoroughly. AGAIN the problem went away for just a short amount of time.
I really do not understand why after cleaning AND replacing the IACV, my car's idle is still hopping up and down.
I have a few questions. Does it matter where the lines that connect to the IACV actually connect to it? There are 2 lines and the 2nd time I might have crossed them but I'm pretty sure it doesnt matter... just asking to be sure. Also coolant IS supposed to flow through one of those lines... correct? After disconnecting one of them coolant was spilling out of it... but i'm sure thats normal RIGHT?
Anyway, PLEASE give me any help possible. After cleaning and replacing the IACV I am clueless. Could this be a coolant problem.. or something else? My coolant level is fine where it is but let me know what you think... It's been troubling me for many many months. Thanks in advance.

This is what worked for me. There is a fast idle throttle valve, I believe that is what it is called, on the underside of my GSR throttle body. When this problem happened to me, it turned out that the internal valve had unthreaded itself. So, we took it apart and threaded it it back where it was supposed to be and I have not had problem for three years now. Good luck.

did you mess around with anything else? iacv and the ftiv are not the answers...its probably the pcv valve or a big *** leak...maybe your throttle cable is a tad too tight.
what did you do to have your car idle like that?
what did you do to have your car idle like that?
I personally didnt do ANYTHING to make it idle like that.
It's not my throttle cable and I didnt mess with anything else. Like i said It works perfect for a short amount of time after cleaning the IACV which is why it might have something to do with that.
Besides flushing the coolant out... is there another way to take the air out of it or is there a way to see if i have air in the coolant?

My idle bounces like a basketball... if you rev the motor then let off, it will drop down to where it's supposed to be (800-900 rpms) then bounces all the way back up to like 1300 rpms... I'm puzzled as hell and tried just about everything that everyone has suggested on here. I have the throttle cable down to where I can't adjust it anymore just to keep it that low, my car theoretically shouldn't even be running it's so low and just a hair of adjustment jumps the rpms to about 2000... Sucks ***!!!
to idle problems! I feel your pain...

you dont need to flush out the coolant, just jack up the front of your car, use jack stands of course, take off the radiator cap, start your car and let it run at 1500-2000 rpms until the fan kicks on and you dont see anymore bubbles

Have you guys put in a new ECU off of another car?

because the air will rise to the highest point, which in this case would be the top of the radiator, allowing the air to escape

This same problem happened to me, except mine would rev high and drop between 1200-1600. I brought it to a Honda dealer and they had to install and Fast Idle Valve, (for my d16z6). Mine would only idle funny at first tho, and after it warmed up it would be fine, but after they installed that part it was fine and good to go and haven't had any problems since, probly about 8 or 9 months.

Thanks TurboC53_ag63T for the info, I am pretty sure this will fix my idle issue on my 92GSR. I have read other posting and it said to tighten the screw in the FITV. I am going to give this a try later today when i get off work....
I will post my results later.

Damn this is really getting to me.
Here's what I DO NOT UNDERSTAND....
After cleaning the IACV everything's good... for a short ride but then the idle problem comes back. After replacing the IACV I still have the same problem... but! When I disconnect the IACV wire the idle goes back to normal and I throw a CEL.... i guess that means I have a problem with the IACV but I've cleaned it and replaced it and still a problem...

I don't think it's too hard to understand but seems like no one has...
The IACV I replaced mine with is in perfect condition, the car it was on ran PERFECT.
I'm sure this isnt my problem but would "wiring at the ecu" be a cause of an idle problem that is temporarily solved after cleaning and replacing the IACV?

its your throttle body,i had same problem,my car constantly reved from 1000-3000.my mechanic took my throttle body off and something inside of it was messed up.i cant remember the exact name of it.inspect your throttle body
same problem happend to me, i found out it had nothing to do with the idle control valve. it was kinda weird but it was my cooling system cause when i turn on my a/c it idles normal again but not for long. i never solved this problem but it never really bugged me. 240miles for a full tank ON a STOCK D16Z6
