My goddam car wouldn't start this morning. Fuel Filter?
I got a 94 Civic VX and this morning my car wouldn't start for 15mins. I just kept on trying to start it but **** wouldn't turn on. The car would start for 2secs then shut off immediatly. Finally it did and asked my friend what the problem could be and he said its the fuel pump. Another friend said its the main relay. I did a search and people are saying it is the fuel filter. What the hell should i do? Oh! And if it is the fuel pump can I go to the junkyard and use one off a DX or CX? Same goes for the main relay. Where is the relay located? Please help I'm a dumasss
the main relay is next to the dash fuse box...its a big fuse...but i think its just the fuel pump and i would recommed to just get a Dx fuel pump...92-95 EX/SI/Lx/DX are all the same and pumps 110...you sould also use the integra Ls since they are the same only from the model 94-95
Some guy at my local garage said he has a "universal fuel pump" for $20. He said "it will work but you gotta make it work". Is it worth buying?

i woulndt go with a 255 unless you have big mods in mind. i.e. turbo, big n2o shot, etc. Your problem could be in any of those places your friends suggested. I would start with the fuel filter. It's the cheapest, easiest, and often overlooked from a general maintenece standpoint. If that isn't the problem, it still prabably needed to be replaced, so you haven't "wasted" money. You may also have problems with your distributer. The individual parts of a distributer are pretty cheap.
My car does the same thing. Hit the gas when it starts and itll stay running.
Oddly it only happens when my gf is in the car, shes black magic.
This problem didnt start until my muffler fell off, so in my case, it may be a backpressure issue i guess.

Well I checked some stuff out maybe this will make a better description of the problem. When I open the gas tank cap there is no pressure (that sheessh sound). We took out the back seat and checked the fuel pump and we tried to tap it (create vibration) and then tried starting the car and it turned on. Most likey its the fuel pump right?
I had a similar problem with my car...it wasn't the main relay, it was the fuel pump. But I suggest that you go out and buy a automotive repair manual it should help you out a lot in the futrue.
yeah dont go changing stuff without knowing for sure. if its the main relay, your check engine light and other lights wont come on with you turn on the ignition. the fuel pump wont turn on either. the main relay will prime the pump for a second and then shut it off until the car starts. if thats all good, put on a fuel pressure gauge or listen to the fuel pump.

I think you can actually fix it yourself. If you have a solder gun and solder it shouldn't be too hard. Do a search, it is a common problem.

From Honda a brand new main relay is roughly $50 to $75 depending on the dealership... most people say to resolder the connections for a cheap fix but for the $55 i paid for mine it was well worth it to have piece of mind for the next decade (which is how long they seem to last)... Plus the new one you would buy from Honda is from what I've heard "redesigned" so Honda i guess recognized a problem with the original design and fixed it the best they could... I have a 92 si my wife has a 93 lx sedan and my buddy has a 93 si and all of our main relays went out within a few months of each other, so it is a common problem... It still could be the fuel pump or even something as simple as the fuel filter but just a heads up.
mines dose it sometimes
what i do is i smack the dash real hard the area thats covered by the door when you close it. that usually fixes it.
i usually do that or slam my door real hard and problem solved.
i really should fix it soon before it really takes a **** on me lol

Don't smack the dash... That's no bueno!!!! It usually has to do with heat when it comes to the main relay... I started to notice a pattern that I only had problems starting my car when the interior was really hot... roll down the windows and let it air out for a few minutes or i saw a suggestion to buy a can of compressed air once and spray that on the relay to cool it down quick style... but really just spend the fifty bucks and buy the new one and about 20 mins of your time to replace!
Just wanted to add that my check engine light doesnt stay on. When i tried to start the car it seems like the car is going to stay on but then it just shuts off after 1sec.
