Default For those with AEM CAI, need your help...

I was taking out my AEM CAI when I noticed a bunch of scratches on the inside of the intake pipe on the throttle body side. Has anybody seen this with their intakes? What coulda caused those scratches?? The intake has probably only been on my car for about 8000 km. Did crap that made it through the filter, scratch up the inside of the pipe?????

Is the breather hose connected to the intake or do you have it capped and filtered? Are these scratches in the metal or just marks on the inside of the intake.

I don't know about scratches, per say, but mine has lines, I think it's just from small particles skimming across the surface at high speed. Happens over time.

The crankcase breather hose is connected. I guess you could say they are lines. These "lines" are pretty deep though.... I also have a short ram intake but it doesn't have these scratches/lines..

The reason I ask is because oil particles are transferred from your crankcase back into your intake via that breather hose. That's why I put a filter on mine. I didn't want the oil gumming up my throttle body and intake valves. I'd probably have to see your scratches to be able to make a judgement of how they were caused. Much like fracture analysis, the visual clues are usually the most telling.

On the aem I had the marks on it looked like they where made when it was built and then it was painted after. If not you probably just sucked some rocks in the intake j/k

The scratches you see are from the mandrel bending equipment used to make the intake...every AEM we have on the shelf has those marks brand new...nothing to worry about.
