He has a 1st gen B16A with a 2nd gen B16A2 head.

I heard something about that intake manifold not working somehow with the 2nd gen b16's? I dunno what that would be though.

He's checked the plugs and they are in, although I think he should check the impedance and continuity.

VTEC won't function with codes 10, 14, and I believe without a chipped ECU it throws your car into limp mode.

Code 10 might throw your car into limp mode, I'm not 100% sure though. That is the IAT (intake air temp sensor).

It's a two wire, white sensor located by the fuel rail on B series manifolds.

As for the code 14, that is the IACV and will not cause vtec to cease working. Check the IACV wiring as well. I believe the wire color is Org/Blk, going to A6 an the other wire is Yel/Blk going to A25.

Grab a digital multimeter, or someone that knows how to use one, and check the pinouts between the sensor and the pinout location.

Best thing to do with the vtec problem is look at your oil level and check wiring -- even though it's not throwing the code.

Who did your wiring?

Thank you! This is the response I wanted .

Would the first gen intake manifold mated to the 2nd gen head have anything to do with it? Would a Hondata intake manifold gasket cause this problem? We'll look at the plug.

The IACV has been giving us mad problems in this car, it's kinda of a pain, the rpms fluctuate at idle and always have, kinda sucks. We'll have someone check the continuity, need to find a pinout though.

I told him just to get a Skunk2 manifold, screw the dumb **** .

Nah, the first gen *will* work, but is a POS.

You just really need to check the continuity between the pinouts and the end of the specific sensor plug.

Pinouts as follows:

IACV:

Blu/Yel to A9 pinout is for the IACV (A6 is friggin Heater Control on the O2 on me)
Yel/Blk wire is power source to the IACV which is A25

IAT:

Red/Yel to D15 pinout
Grn/Wht to D22 (sensor ground)

As for the idle, I would just clean the screens on the IAC valve as well, also put the idle screw in all the way, and tighten the fast idle valve located underneath the throttle body. There are two coolant lines going to it.

Simply tighten the white spring loaded valve until it's tight.

Thanks dude, we'll check it out. I've always thought it was the FAC because isn't it pretty much controlled by wax ?

Thanks again, we'll get someone familiar with conitinuity to help us out .
