Default Has anyone ever heard of this!

Upon doing some research I ran into something I found interesting but does it actually work or can it cause damage to your engine!

1.Anyway, I was reading a thread about how you can gain an extra few hp by tightening the tolerences on your valve lash by .002"!

example: if your valve lash on your intake side was .006" then you would set at .004" instead!

2. Also there was another thread about side-gapping spark plugs; meaning you cut back the metal piece right to the 90 degree bend to get a longer spark!

I know this sounds crazy however I have heard of this before, just not being done on imports! So is there any truth in this or is it a load of crap!

dunno about the spark plugs...but if you over tighten youf valve lash....your valves will float on the top end....

By decreasing your valve lash you might gain a couple thousandths of lift, but when the parts expand from the heat your valves might not close all the way. That would lead to lose of compression and might even torch an ex valve.

What you could do is set your valve lash to 4&6 cold. Then start the motor and wait till it got to running temp. Then pull the valve cover off and recheck the valve lash to see how much it expanded. Just a thought

Every little bit helps, but its not good for the valves. Did it once racing for some cash a LONG LONg time ago (1994?). Took out the headlight, ram air tube with an extra tight valve lash. We ended up racing three times because it was so close (1/4 car length each time!). I would like to think that it helped that day.
