Default Preserving a brandy-new, creamy Transmission

OK, like I got this CRX and it has a nice brandy-new, creamy transmission with a new gear set, final drive and a Quaife.

I'm not a complete tool about shifting, but I'd like to know what yawl's do to keep your road racing transmission well preserved.

Put it in a cool dry area in an air-tight plastic bag.

Ditto, use Honda MTF and change it a couple of times a year.

No need for drag racing shifts. Shift up quickly & precisely but don't yank it. Match revs on the way down. When done right, road racing is not overly hard on a tranny.

I'm gonna have to fall out of the RR/AX party line and disagree here. I vastly prefer Red Line MTF (I've used both).

I started using Red Line at mile 1000 and have historically been a bit of a slacker with regard to changing it.

Well, when Pete and I cracked the trans to put in the LSD a year ago, he and I were both quite stunned at how good the tranny bits looked. The only syncro rings showing any noticable wear was 1st gear, and I suspect that's due to an old, long-gone habit of downshifting into 1st rather violently in autocross applications.

When we put the trans back together Pete had me use the Honda fluid. The shift quality got notably clunkier and less smooth and has remained so.

FWIW...

If nothing else, I am going on longer drain intervals w/ the Motul stuff so I am wasting less time draining and disposing of the old oil, if not saving some coin in the end.

I couldn't engage first at all using Redline MTF alone. I've been told mixing half Redline MTF and MT-90 will work better. Though in the mean time I just am changing Honda MTF every 15k.
