I think he was being synnical*
Actually pretty hard to make reproduction trunk. You would have to make a 2 molds for the part, and then make a good repro. part. I would just go to Importfan.com

Isnt all the work trying to mate the inner skin to the outer skin? I guess you could just make the outer trunk skin, but it wouldnt hold any weight.

you would need to take your trunk and make a two piece mold off of that , or make a buck and then mold off that , basically anything you want to make out of composites and you want a smooth finish you have to make three times.
messy , PITA.
I can make the stuff and if it were my car I would buy it , its easier and less of a hassle...

yea it would be easy and fine to go buy one, but thats kinda lame. I would rather build my own car for myself than just buy a part someone else built so i can be cool.
anyways, i still have like 10 pic's to take on this camera but i will post pics of it when its done. The skin came out fine, just working on bracing the area where it bolts on the rails. I think its about 5-6lbs with a good couple layers of fiberglass. Not really that hard... or expensive.

dewmota, I think it is an awesome idea, go ahead and try to do it. I had an idea about building a track day hatch for my rex; 1) make the basic shape of the hatch from polyurethane foam (like surfboards). 2)Build a sturdy frame out of wood or metal, this is so that you can replicate the hardware mounting positions exactly using your factory hatch/trunk. 3) fit your foam hatch to your car as close as you can and install your hardware anchors. 4) lay up fiberglass or CF on your plug. 5) use those hatch locks like King sells from Mugen to hold her down.
I mean this sounds like it would work in theory (surfboards are made this way and function well.) granted your first attempt might not be a beauty queen but would probably only weigh 20lbs minus lexan. A sound piece for haulin' *** around the track and you dont have to build two molds. Hey Cortez... still a lot of work but but not half as much I think and very rewarding when done right?

If your just racing make the skin and like what was stated before just use quater turn fastners. Youll be fine, just weld a 1/4 inch tube across the center of it if you need more support. We do it all the time and it holds to 200 mph
How did it go with the truck lid? I see so many people trying carbon and fiberglass work recently it gets interesting to see some of the results.
