Yeah **** using all these B.S. additaves and crap like that. They DO NOT hold up to their advertised claims. Just stick to using good quality oil.

all i know is i used to laugh at the commercials and their riduculous claims, then I went to see an engine/racecar builder frind of mine and saw him putting the entire prolong or z max or whatever in the new dart block. I asked if it worked he said it dont hurt for 30bucks??? I know use it it actually does coat the cylinders with a lubricant (soaks into metal) like advertised.

i don't think there ever can be real conclusive evidence of improvement using those products. just because Shelby is the main guy zmax uses to promote their product doesn't mean it's good... just means he sold out heh... but yes it may help in the short run, but in the long run it may damage your engine. the 'tests' they show to prove their product don't really work yet either... most of the time the tests are under perfect conditions. plus. would a company really say 'bad' things about their product?

we ran prolong religously in our stock car
we got 55 races out of the engine.. we only replaced the motor because we got a bunch of money for the championship and it was smoking a little bit.. then it became the spare motor
most people got 20 to 30 races out of an engine.

we also changed the oil every other race and added a new bottle of prolong every other oil change

But who knows.. really

I ran mobil 1 only in my civic.. and I still destroyed a rod bearing when I was 1.75 quarts low on oil
It's more important to change your oil and filter and check it regularly

It is up to the manufacturers of these products to prove that these products are useful because they are charging money for them. It is not up to other people to prove that they are not useful.

If I claimed that there is a colony of Smurfs living on the far side of the moon would it be your responsibility to prove that I am wrong?

The Acura manual says it best when talking about these products:

Using [these products] will not increase your vehicle's performance or longevity. It only increases the cost of operating your vehicle.

i have also seen an article about a few researchers who tried the prolong claim of running the engine without oil and it ran for about 15 seconds without oil and blew after that. so, that disproves one of their claims and i've also heard that there is chlorine in prolong as well.

F.T.C. info.... http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1999/9909/prolong.htm

Does Honda use them? That is the answer to your question.

I recently saw an article about the legal challanges too. One by one, the additive makers are being sued and asked to substantiate their claims. Rather than do that, they opt to change their advertising.

Things that make you go "Hmmm."
