1991 Civic LX Fuel System questions.
Well I have a 91 Civic LX that I'm going to be running in a demolition derby this Thursday, and I'm having some problems with the Fuel System. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.
The car ran just fine with the stock fuel system in place, but the rules for the derby say a spill-proof fuel cell must be placed inside the car.
So I install a boat gas tank from Wal-Mart, and an Autozone universal electronic fuel pump, using the stock fuel line, now the car won't start.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to rig up the system so the car will run? The stock system had three lines to/from the tank: main fuel line, return line, and maybe a vapor line. Right now, all I have hooked up is the fuel line (to the fuel rail maybe, or TB what ever it has), no return or vapor line. The return is temporarily hooked up to a catch-container to catch the return fuel until I run it to the tank. Does that need to be pressurized? If so, I'm wondering how to pressurize the system, since I think that's were the problem lies. But if it's under pressure, how does air get into the tank as gas is being pumped out of it (I don't want to create a vacuum in there)? Is there a valve that lets air into the stock tank as gas is pumped out of it? If so, I guess I need to fab one up for my fuel cell.
I know I asked a lot of questions, but any help/ideas on this would be greatly appreciated

Yeah, I have it wired up using the OEM wiring. I can hear it prime when I turn the key. Any ideas?

Does anybody know what psi the stock fuel pump runs?
I think I'm not getting enough presure to the TB, and the electronic device (sorry I don't know the name for it) is not opening and letting the fuel in.

is this car sill a FI car, then the stock fuel preshure should be 32 to 45 PSI

The real scientific name for his is the fuel injector thinggy.

thanks for the reply.
Yes, the car is still fuel injected. It's DPFI, and the "fuel injector thinggy" is not letting fuel into the TB. I can't figure out how to make it engage. It worked fine with the stock tank, stock pump, etc..., but now with the fuel cell, and inline pump, it won't work. Do you think the injector thing isn't engaging because my fuel pump isn't pumping at 32 - 45 psi? I couldn't say if my pump's pumping at that rate or not because it doesn't say, I just had it laying around from a different application.

Well I checked the fuel pump and it's a napa autoparts 45 psi fuel pump for fuel injected applications, that should get the job done right? I don't know the 88-91's all that well, but does this car have a fuel pressure regulator, and I need to turn the pressure down? I don' know what else to try, and I'm running out of time for this, the derby is Thursday.

There is a fuel pressure regulator on the car. It's located below that black boxy air intake thing that sits on top of the throttle body. The fuel return line attaches right to it.
45psi from the fuel pump should be fine. Your fuel pressure regulator should take care of it.

Well any ideas of what could be causing the car to not turn over? Everything is the same except the system is not under any other pressure other than what the pump is pushing. I'm at a loss right now.

Well off to the junk yard I go for new TPS, and fuel injector thingy,
That's the only things I can think that could possibly be wrong.

first off WTF using a Honda in a what!!!
and then it is a sedan NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well here is what I think it could be is the fuel pump had the same problem before I got one for a cab instead of a FI car which didn't know would of mattered well it did and got to enjoy being on my back on a cold winter morning

lol, you guys aren't serious are you? I got this car for free because it was no longer worthy of the road. It was a completely rusted out POS, no exhaust, interior smelled of months of rain pouring in the broken windows, but it still ran.
Anyway, I figured out what the problem was. The electronic fuel injector valve thing was failing. I guess it was just an ironic twist of fate, that it gave out at the exact moment in time I removed the stock fuel system, which led me to believe that the fuel system was at fault.
