Maybe a dumb question
I've heard JDM H22A's are from right hand driven cars. If I drop one of these in my Accord like I'm planning, will the 5spd shift the same as a left hand driven car like mine?
Yeah, even with right hand drive the shift patern is the same with first up and left, just as clutch is always on the left and gas on the right. If right hand drive were a mirror image of left hand drive (or vice versa) the world would be in chaos (well, more than it already is).
You know, we here in the US have the EPA and emissions controls? Our ECUs have restrictions proogrammed in to limit emissions. Japan doesn't. One fuel rail exits on the left, the other on the right. Depending on your engine and car, you'll have to mix and match stuff.
I live in Iowa. I've never had to have my essions tested or have a smog test. So, until I run into that problem can't I stick with the JDM ecu? I have a LX 4dr w/non-VTEC right know. I imagine the fuel rail off my engine problly won't work huh? You wrote back too on my question about the starter, altenator, ect. Do you think any of it will transfer? One more. Are the oil filters and things of that nature the same as the US spec or will I have to find JDM specific parts. Hope I'm not annoying you, I'm trying to research this as much as I can before I decide to swap!
Thanks a ton 4door, you've been a ton of help!

Oil filters are the same.
Actually when you buy an engine, it comes with all accessories intact. It should have the starter, altenator, power steering pump and a/c compressor all attached. Just bolt the motor right in... well sort of. Depending on exactly which motor you get you might have to change the power steering pump, axels, and other little things. Basically the latest US H22A4s like I got are the hardest to install. The 93-96 US Prelude H22A1 and JDM H22 should be easier for electronic (ECU, distributor, fuel injectors) and fitment (power steering pump) reasons. I'm using the ECU from a US H22A1 'cause it's not as restrictive as the ECU that normally comes with the H22A4 engine (this is called the OBD II to OBD I conversion, and it's pretty expensive). I don't forsee any emissions problems. JDM ECUs might also be able to pass emissions, but I have no clue. THat's a good question actually. Any guys out there with JDM spec electronics take an emissions test and pass?

u can use the jdm fuel rail...the ecu is just limited to 112 mph...just get that rechipped and ur on ur way...its better to deal with obd1 than 2...so stick with the earlier h22 versions...
