Default ok, this might have been covered...

ok i have till monday or tuesday at best to have my car 100% ready for a engine getting swapped in.

I'm stuck on the axle removal. It seems to be really rusted in there, i got the other one out no problem, but as of now all my neighbors are pretty damn mad about the past 3 hours of banging on it with a hammer. I've tryed spraying WD-40 in the little inset, i've tryed brake cleaner....all this crap and nothing has happened. If i can find one to borrow i might resort to a few good hits with a small sledge hammer.

Other than brute force what else can i do?

Thanks guys

Heat it with a torch, over and over that might break it loose

they make a four finger gear puller that can attach to your studds and then it pushes it out through the front side. let me see if i can find out where we got it from thats what we use on miatas that we tear apart..

You should buy some pb blaster or liquid wrench. And whats the problem, is the axle nut off, or is the axle just stuck in there ?

Did you take the axle out of the the tranny?? maybe its just stuck against there. Is it moving at all?? Just put the axle nut on lightly (not snug) and then wail on it with a nice size Hammer.

Have someone pull the rotor back, and give the axle a few dood whacks with a rubber hammer.

Tap the end of the axle, the part thats sticking out of the hub. This will break any rust build up in there.

well i have owned 10 honda's now and they have all been a pain to get the axel's out.... i am also a machinist...... if you hit the head of the axel to hard it will flare and you will never get it out. period.... best thing to do is remove the bolt for the lower control arm on the frame..... then the lower shock mount,.... tierod end, and the bar the conects to the crossmember off of the crossmember, and the upper mount..... then take it to a machine shop, or auto place that has a bearing press.... will cost you like 2 to 5 dollars.... you can usually drop the whole steering knuckle in about 20 min if you are good..... if you cant do this then take a cutting torch and just heat the axel untill it is red.... (dont squeeze the handle on the torch!!!) you dont want to cut it out... just heat it real good.... let it cool untill you can just touch it..... then beat that bitch with a dead blow hammer...... if you dont have a dead blow hammer........... buy one you will need it again im sure..... good luck....
