suggestions before fabbing up exhaust
Well me and a friend decided to go ahead and premake my exhaust for when im boosted again. Heres the specs I'm throwing around my head.
Full 3"
3" Cat
along with a replaceable 3" downpipe
Apexi N1 turbo canister
over axle design
I chose to go with the over the axle because my car is the ideal height right now for the back country rodes where i live, and i really dont feel like changing a thing, so we will measure it twice and then once more, to make sure it does fit without problems. now here's the questions
1.) How many resonators should i go with. This is going to be going on an 98 LS 2 Dr. I was thinking a minumum of two resonators, maybe three, or is that complete overkill? I really dislike the coffee can sound, i took my other muffler completely off because of the noise. so i could maybe fit 2 24" resonators, or should i try for 3 slightly smaller ones???
2.) Flanges... I was browsing around KTeller 8's site ( i made a vow to order my exhaust supplies from him.) and noticed the V band flange. is this better than the traditional 3 bolt 3 inch flange? here's the info...
We offer a complete line of flanges and piping for the do-it-yourself turbo or exhaust kit !!!
"For the fabricator who desires to have a close tolerance, gasketless tube coupling, V-Band clamps are the high-tech alternative to the standard 3-bolt flange"
Will this make it harder for me and my associate to fab up my exhaust (im an amateur he works for a company that makes SS piping, so he DEFINITELY knows how to weld.) because i like the idea of having the entire thing be a V-Band, i'm thinking it would make it easier to remove if the need be, AKA installing my optional test pipe...
but please share with me your input and insight.
thanks in advance
Jason

I think the V-bands are really overkill, and targeted for people that are going to pulling their system apart frequesntly. Like a drag team that replaces turbo's often.
The N1 is going to be loud. It's not a muffler. What do you expect. I definitly think 3 resonators is too much, and honestly don't think you'll have enough room for them.
My 3in setup only had 1 20in resonator.

yea i was thinking space wise i would probably not be able to fit the 3rd resonator in there. so im thinking two 22 inch resonators would suffice nicely. I'm gonna have a pretty big compressor in front of the exhaust so hopefully that calms the exhaust down a little bit. I still am pondering the idea of the v band usage, because the ease of installing and dissassembling appeals to me.

If you get one 24" long resonator and a nice quality turbo style muffler it will be pretty quiet. Especially with a cat and turbo there to help the noise too. I bet you could fit one long and one shot resonator in there if you had to.
V bands are definitely overkill for a street car. If the cost doesn't bother you I see no reason not to though. I kinda like over building stuff myself. At least messing with the exhaust in the future will be super easy

the super easy exhaust thing is what im talking about. the nearest acura dealer is about 100 miles away, and all of the local parts stores dont carry **** for import parts, so if i needed an exhaust donut, i would be screwed (which i have been in the past) plus i think the v bands would weather out better than regular or even spring bolts.

Acura sells 3in donut gaskets?

V-bands =
By the time you buy two three bolt flnages botls and gaskets your gonna spend near what a V- band is and it's mroe of a hassle. In my opinion V-band Flnages are superior check out our website for some great tech info
3" all the way through soudns great Since it's a turbo car you shouldn't get that resonant frequency that produces the raspy sound but start with one 24" resonator.
Check out our 17" long Race mufflers too they do a great job of quieting it down.

V-bands are worth it if you are interested in building a quality product with a long service life. A GOOD set of CNC machined 3-bolt flanges and copper gasket will cost you about $70. Spend the extra $10 and get the V-band. You won't ever have to worry about gaskets, corroded hardware or bolts that are hard to get to again.
The cat and turbine should quiet things down quite a bit. All a resonator will do is help a small amount on reducing freeway drone. Not worth the added weight and cost in my mind.
