mtf change gone BAD>axle questions
so it was nice and cool and decided to do a mtf change to syncromesh...
both fill and drain plug were unopenable
ok so now i remmber i think it was patrick-something said
to test axles go under the car jacked up..
if u spin one wheel the other should go too
if one side spins and then the other means you need axles
well when i spin the pass side alone, the driver side doesnt move at all...
i rmember that when i did that a month ago both side moved.....'
any help would be appreciated
thanks

that's a way to test the differential.
if you spin one wheel in neutral, the other one may spin the other direction or not all. In gear, if you spin one wheel, the other will spin the other way.
you couldn't determine if axles are bad by spinning them.
Now, if you have a LSD, spinning one should make the other go slower in the same direction.

noooooo no no no
What I was saying is to spin the wheel, and check for any freeplay in the joints. The whole axle including the shaft and inner and outer joints should all spin as one with the wheel/hub. If you start to move the wheel, and it looks like there is some lag before the inner joint starts moving, then the inner joint is shot, and most likely you will have bad vibrations under acceleration ONLY within some certain range of speed.
