Hi guys.

I'm looking to by my first civic. Up till now all I've owned is trucks. Anyway, for now I'm just looking for something with good gas milaege to drive to work everyday, and then possibly make into a project down the road. So I was hoping I could get some advice on a good platform to start with, such as what years(new or used), body styles, and motors. Thanks for any advice.

If you want a if you th best engine you can get in a civic stock, grab the civic si, if you are looking for cheap...crap a later model civic ex,lx,dx,hx,cx,vx, blah blah blah

 

si is a good start if its only going to be daily driven because of a/c, 4 wheel disc and sunroof + maybe more options depending on the year. but if you want to make your civic into a project the cx/vx are the lightest (both the same weight). but its all up to what YOU want

 

whats your budget? any civic basically will be a great grocery getter/project car.

 

Hey thanks. I did make the mistake of not reading the rules and guidelines first. I also wasn't sure how to get a good result out of the search. "Best first car" didn't really give me much.

 

As for budget, I could afford to by a new DX, or maybe even an LX(around 13-14k) but then that would leave me with little money for mods. So I'm also considering something down around 5000.

 

i think a 96-00 civic will suit you nicely. don't know which body style you like (hatch, coupe, or sedan) so take your pick.

 

I think the best year civics as far as comfort and daily driver cars are the 99-00 Coupes. Get a 5sp EX, it comes with AC, moon roof, power everything, and will get you 35mpg if not more. If you want to turn it into a project car throw a Greddy sohc turbo kit on it, put some bolt ons and some fuel and you will be in the mid 13's no problem. Then you have all the creature comforts as well as going quick.

2000 SI = perfect starting car...

Vtec is definetly a plus to start with because if you want it down the road, it tends to be a bitch...

 

for a project car a lot of people like the 5th gen (92-95) or the 6 gen (96-99) They just look nicer I think, and the 2000 models have started to get bigger, I think?? but the 5th and 6th gens are pretty cheat so youll have a lot of money left over and whatever you wanna modify will be available because modifying these years is so common. so theyd be your best bet i think.

 

The 2000 Si is one of the lamest civics ever made. My .02. Buy a lower model and don't waste your money. It will be easy to upgrade it later.

you sir, are a stupid ***.. oh yeah, jeez, those models are **** compared to the si, dont be a dumb ***.. look at the specs of each model, then say that again..

I'm going to suggest an ek...if not an ek, def an eg (i guess im kinda biased ). anyway, picking up an eg will leave you with plenty for mods

Its all about the EK.
EG's are cool but they look to much like EGGs.
